.... Honda recalls 1.2M Accords; battery sensors can catch fire By Associated Press July 13 at 6:35 PM DETROIT — Honda is recalling 1.2 million Accord midsize cars in the U.S. because a battery sensor can short out and potentially cause a fire. The recall covers cars from the 2013 through 2016 model years. Honda says it has four reports of engine compartment fires due to the problem but no injuries. All the fires were in states where salt is used to clear roads in the winter. The company says the sensors on the negative terminal of the battery aren’t properly sealed from moisture. Road salt can get in and cause corrosion and an electrical short. A shorted sensor can heat up and possibly catch fire. Dealers will inspect the sensors. Faulty ones will be replaced. Those without problems will get an adhesive sealant and will be replaced when parts are available. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/honda-recalls-12m-accords-battery-sensors-can-catch-fire/2017/07/13/6ab4ed7c-681b-11e7-94ab-5b1f0ff459df_story.html?utm_term=.085f1cb9db68 Statement by American Honda Regarding Battery Sensor Recall: 2013-2016 Honda Accord PRINT ADD SHARE DOWNLOAD Jul 13, 2017 - TORRANCE, Calif. Approximately 1.15 million Accord vehicles affected in the United States 12-volt battery sensors will ultimately be replaced, free of charge Four engine compartment fires have been reported in the U.S. with no reports of injuries Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 1.15 million Accord vehicles from the 2013-2016 model-years in the United States to replace the 12-volt battery sensor, free of charge. Honda has received four reports of engine compartment fires in the United States related to this issue, all within the “salt belt” area. There have been no reported injuries related to these incidents. The 12-volt battery sensor is located on the negative battery cable within the engine compartment, monitoring the battery’s state of charge in order to alert the driver to problems with the battery or the charging system. The battery sensors installed in affected vehicles may not be sufficiently sealed against moisture intrusion. Over time, moisture intrusion may bring road salt or other electrically conductive substances inside the battery sensor, leading to corrosion and eventual electrical shorting of the sensor. A shorted sensor can heat up through electrical resistance, potentially resulting in smoke coming from under the hood or, in the worst case, a fire. Honda will notify registered owners of all affected vehicles by mail beginning in late-July 2017, with instructions to take their vehicles to a Honda automobile dealer. The dealer will check the vehicle for a Diagnostic Troubleshooting Code (DTC) related to the sensor, test the battery sensor and, if it is not functioning properly, replace the sensor with a countermeasure part (final repair). Due to the large number of parts required to conduct the recall, if a vehicle has a battery sensor in good condition, the dealer will apply a temporary repair – application of an adhesive to the battery sensor case to prevent moisture intrusion. When countermeasure parts inventory becomes sufficient, all owners of vehicles that have not yet received the final repair will receive a second mailed notification advising them to take their vehicles to a Honda automobile dealer for the final repair. Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive mailed notification from Honda. SmartChoices:This your Honda hatred sef, na wa oh. Their ball-joint problem happens at low speed (I haven't seen or heard of a high speed scenario). Toyota has the highest & most dangerous recalls in Japanese automotive history (perhaps the world over) & I don't see you say anything about them. Dem blow whistle ontop Hyundai/Kia head, you no talk. Even revered Mercedes Benz denied rollover tendencies of their 1st A-class until they couldn't hide it. Takata (though not technically an automotive company) has put more lives in danger, no response. Help us with reports of new recalls, but please stop telling people to avoid a particular brand, unless all governing bodies involved say you should. 2 Likes |

Hope if you're asked to prove beyond every doubt why Hondas are defective or risk a prison sentence, you'd be able? Besides, we know almighty Benz isn't free of recall. They've got some action class law suits too. |
