Nigerians spent N6.7 trillion on importation of consumables and household items in 2015, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Aisha Abubakar stated yesterday.

She spoke in Kano at a stakeholders’ meeting on “Buy Made-in- Nigeria Products” by the Ministry in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.

Abubakar declared the staggering amount being spent on importation of goods as unacceptable, saying it is responsible for the campaign to change perception of Nigerians towards patronising locally made products.

She said: “In 2015 alone, over N6.7 trillion was spent on the importation of goods and services for which the nation can produce locally.

“Also, N1.09 trillion was reportedly spent on imported foods and drinks; N1.5 trillion on spare-parts; N123.01 billion on shoes and clothes and N399 billion on household items. Imagine if this had been spent on our local industries.”

Abubakar informed government’s determination to encourage the patronage of Made-in-Nigeria products by Ministries, Departments and Agencies made Acting President Yemi Osinbajo sign the Executive Order 3, aimed at ensuring that 40 per cent goods procured by government agencies are made locally.

What an absolute turd of a person. Whars unacceptable in importing? Can we produce everythinh we consume? The United kingdom imports more than 80% of what they consume and heaven did not fall

Build a better economy and there won't be any problem . Putting an embargo is the reason why food is most expensive here in Nigeria than anywhere in the world

Thunder fall on you idiots

Charity begins at home madam minister. Please start by advising the president to return back home, import those medical equipments, get the doctors to come to Nigeria and operate them while taking care of him.
At least one hospitar in Nigeria will be well equipped. The money we are wasting on parking the presidential plane will be saved.
Your london doctors will also teach our Nigeria doctors how to operate those equipment and the rate of medical tourism will reduce on the long run.

You can not ask me to buy made in Nigeria when you and your boss is not leading by example.

Please lead by example . That's you are leaders at the top and we follows from behind.

You guys are rulers like the north Korean chap. Any way I wish the president well so that all the money spended will be well spended. ( according to sports minister).

I thought ipob said they were industrious.unfortunately they have no impact in the economy.
They have failed to accept the fact that majority of the birafia are traders that deal in mostly imported goods.innoson does not manufacture but assembles and lot others ,that is why this government never favoured them. Finally nigeria will never move forward if our import is more than our export.
