Comrade360: My gawd! Do you people even read? I said "basically'. Gosh dang! Everything has its overarching basics. So does photography. No serious photographer will deny that lighting, composition and focus are not fundamentals. Everything else is secondary. 1. Photography, whether emulsion or silicon, basically is all about capturing light. 2. To get very good shots, the scene needs to be properly composed. See Rule of Thirds. 3. If you don't know how focal lengths matter, you'll shoot pictures with noise and no focus on the important subject. The basics of cooking a good meal are ingredients, and a recipe: everything else is secondary to these fundamentals. What's so difficult in this? |

Re: Common Mistakes Most Photographers In Nigeria Make All The Time by Samunosuke(m): 8:08pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
Omagzee: It's not nice to generalize. My photography mentor here in Nigeria always ensured EVERYTHING was always set to manual and RAW + jpeg. He despised auto mode. Over time you learn to make judgement calls and quickly set the right aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance depending on conditions. What's the point of buying a $3000 camera with over $4000 in lenses, light strobes, reflectors, wireless transmitters etc just to shoot auto? Shooting in JPEG severely limits the amount of post-processing that can be done on images. Nikons generally have amazing dynamic range that allow to tweak up to 14 stops. Currently eyeing a Sony a7rII though. Mirrorless is the future. 1 Like |

Samunosuke: Bro i didn't generalize na. I said "most". That aside, Sony is giving nikon and canon a run for their money with their full frame mirrorless design and wonderful low light capabilities I swear. Read up the new sony a9. I already have an entry level sony mirrorless camera which uses electronic first shutter system to limit shutter wear and vibration. The a7 line of cameras are referred to as low light beasts! They virtually can see in the dark!!!! Go for it bro, but be wary of e-mount lens availability and cost in Nigeria o Do check out my blog from time to time, because I will be discussing photography as it relates to we here in 9jah |

crotonite: People do, people who want quality picture do. Can you take a photo with your mobile phone and blow it up to about 16x20 size? no bro, you just can't. You can't create that nice background blur AKA bokeh with phone. Camera sensors have high dynamic range and produce high quality photos even at high ISO speed. What of lens? Flash gun? Studio lights and co? Bro, speak for yourself, phone no near and that's why people who want quality will always go to a photographer. 1 Like |

Photographers nowadays hide under digital camera magic, if only they have knowledge of analogue camera, that would have make big difference |
Re: Common Mistakes Most Photographers In Nigeria Make All The Time by Nobody: 9:46pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
richywhales: Did my research very well bro, the kpa kpa photographers make up about 80 percent of the photography business in Nigeria. 20 percent go to "pro photographers" who own studios and big big photo outlets in Nigeria. Do you know some of these pro photographers still make at least one of the mistakes I discussed? I speak from experience, I don see with my coro coro eyes. 1 Like |

Well, anyway, all these happen in this era of digital camera where anybody who profess to be a photographer can just handle the camera by trial and error. Nobody dare try that during analog era where we use film and operate the camera manually. 1 Like |

Na lie, how many photographers shoot RAW? I only shot RAW once and that was because I ran out of space. Also, shooting on Auto? Even when I started learning, I have never, ever used Auto. We have lots of good photographers and this article isn't doing them any justice. The percentage of people who do this are negligible at most |

Program mode is far better than auto. i speak for myself anyway. Also professionals don't always depends on manual mode for all shoots. every settings/mode such as TV, AV, A+, Night, creative etc has its own time to be used. One most important thing I've learned in photography is the science of lighting. if you have an understanding of lighting from natural ambient lights to flashes/strobe, you are 70 percent a photographer. Understanding the relationship between your shutter speed, aperture/fstop and ISO is important. Lens is another gear that enhance the look on image. lens also defines the strength of you DOF. Most times, is not about the camera but the person behind the Camera. And if you want some post processing work after taking photos, i will advice you shoot on RAW. but if you don't have apps light Photoshop element, lightroom and Camera raw, just go with jpeg. You can reach me if you want me to throw more light on studio photography. Am into it, and it pays. |

Not using rule of thirds.. shooting raw is realistically for the special shots you know you're really going to touch up otherwise its not worth the extra space on your card and computer, but it does give a much wider range for editing the photo.
