Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is in Prime position atop the list of world’s wealthiest people.

The 53-year-old magnate briefly surpassed Microsoft’s Bill Gates, often a fixture as the richest man, when his company’s stock surged Thursday morning.

Bezos had reached a lofty $90.3 billion as of 10:30 a.m., Forbes reported, though market fluctuation could seem him slip behind Gates’s $90 billion.


The tech entrepreneur’s mass of Monopoly money, based on his nearly 17% ownership of Amazon and other companies such as the Washington Post, has reportedly grown more than $24 billion this year, according to Bloomberg.

Others in the top five include Spaniard Zara founder Amancio Ortega, investor Warren Buffett and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Investors' faith in Bezos's company comes after it came under fire from the president Wednesday.

"The #AmazonWashingtonPost, sometimes referred to as the guardian of Amazon not paying internet taxes (which they should) is FAKE NEWS!" Trump tweeted.

It was not immediately clear what Trump meant by "internet taxes," and Amazon pays state sales taxes where they exist.
