If Covenant University that started just 15 years ago can best those who have been in existence more than 40 years +; then kudos must be given to the promoters of the institution. At the rate they are going, it won't be long when the school is counted among the top 100 in the world!

Well, if those schools were collecting N800,000 in school fees, maybe they'd be doing better.

It's a shame that many Nigerians accept whatever is thrown at them without doing a personal check!

Quote me, Webometrics is not recognised outside Nigeria, and by extension, Africa. The chief reason for this is that the ranking system does not fit into the most advanced thinking on University ranking methodology. Specifically, the ranking is mainly based on University 'presence' on the internet-hence the name-'WEBometrics'. In fact, there's a caveat on Webometrics' website that: "It does not measure, compare, or quantify design layout or popularity but rather uses presence, access, and visibility as the key indicators of quality and performance in the higher education sector."

Little wonder therefore that the 2017 Webometric ranking of World Universities goes thus:

1. Harvard University
2. Stanford University
3. MIT
4. University of California Berkeley
5. University of Michigan
6. University of Washington

My point: Yale University, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton and Columbia are ranked 13, 7, 10, 23 and 27 respectively! The only ranking methodology that can lead to such conclusion is WEBOMETRICS!

Accordingly, the only place UNN & Covenant can be rated above OAU, Ile-Ife; and FUTMINNA rated above UNILAG & ILORIN is Webometrics!

The QS World ranking of Universities, Academic ranking of World Universities and the Times are the rankings that are respected all over the world. Unfortunately, apart from UI that is recognised by the Times, no other Nigerian University is recognised by these reputable organisations.

So, stop falling over yourselves-Webometrics has little or no practical utility!

So true. Nigerians are quick to mention webometrics because that is where they rank the highest. They are far lower in other rankings.

Typical chest-beating, deluded arrogance of OAU students and alumni. They're easily the loudest, brashest, most conceited people I know. Even UI people don't make half as much noise. And why would you assume OAU is better than Covenant or UNN and can't be ranked below them? OAU don turn Oxford, abi?
That is why I like UI guys.
Atimes it looks as if they are not in nairaland at all.Empty barrels make the loudest noise.

Well Covenant university doesn't collect allocations and Tetfund cash from govt. What public universities miss in tuition they get in subvention. UI's annual wage bill from FG is enough to build twelve universities the size of Anchor university. So the problem isn't entirely money related. We have an highly politicized public university system which lacks discipline.
