Some of una sef.... Bigotry and tribalism won't allow most of u to read, think and reason well... Wen dis govt placed all the needless restrictions on forex in d country , importers and manufacturers were deeply affected as access to forex became a problem. After d CBN and govt succeeded in aiding d collapse of our currency , dey backtracked and removed d same silly restrictions and since den have been pumping forex into d market.. Now manufacturers and importers alike can source forex more easily ... D govt is simply undoing d evil it created...

If u reason well, like u advised, u would have realised that d country wasnt earning any forex as at that period. Oil prices were low, foreign reserves were depleted, no federal allocation for states, both fg n states were owing months of salaries, forex was being demanded for rice/pms n other consumable imports, sabotage of pipelines. Where was govt supposed to generate forex to meet up with demands?

But, d govt has been able to stabilise all these, coupled with a marginal increase in oil prices, is that not enough to congratulate them?

Actually CBN restrictions are the reason why we still have a working economy.

Just a few facts

1.When CBN brought in the restrictions, oil was below $40 per barrel....meaning that our revenues from oil were at an all time low. (In January 2016 ,oil was even at $29 at one point). And our forex reserves were not growing as a result. We had to save dollars to buffer the naira (so that it did not reach N2000 TO $1)..AND meet vital needs that needed forex.

2.Soludo did the same thing in 2008/9....when there was a drop in oil prcies. Yes, we did not feel it because 1) our external revenues were at $60bn 2)the oil prices at no point then dropped below $60.

3.Our daily forex needs at one point were FAR MORE than our forex earnings.

4.Sure the restrictions had a 'paradoxical' effect of harming manufacturing (and driving away investors because it became difficult to remit dollars from Nigeria). But it prevented us from having a drastic loss in our forex reserves (Nigeria now is at $32bn and rising. Venezuela, who produces MUCH more oil than we do is down to $10bn . Hence the rioting in their streets.).

5.Yes, forex restrictions have been reversed....partially...because oil has somewhat rebounded. But it is not yet uhuru....oil has to go up to $100 and above before Emefiele considers completely removing restrictions (The Emir of Kano, when he was CBN guvnor removed Soludo's restrictions once oil went up to $100 and above in 2010. )

6.CBN has done a good job under the circumstances. Then again, our last 3 CBN governors cut their teeth as young bankers under the same conditions in the 1980's (oil price drop-austerity-SAP).

The manufacturing sector is were the government ought to give out dollar in a subsidies rate. But know, they prefer to subsidies for those going to Mecca for pilgrimage that add no value to the economy.
And jerusalem too.

What is the percentage of subvention granted to those going to Jerusalem as compared to those travelling to Mecca/Medina on pilgrimage? The Christian associations want government to hands-off subsidies or grants or waivers in whatever forms.
In states & Abuja all those big churches & camps are built without government subventions.
