Residents of Umuokpu Awka, the Anambra State Capital have been thrown into shock and disbelieve on how a mere drinking-joint disagreement degenerated into a biting attack and eating of man’s ear lobe.

Orient Daily reporter gathered that the dramatic incident took place around 9pm last weekend at one of the popular beer parlours along Awka- Onitsha Old Raod in Umuokpu suburb of the state capital.

According to an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, the usual joyful atmosphere and rancorous banter during the drinking session at such joints dramatically changed when a drunken man identified as Vincent staggered around and fell on the victim known as J5.

“When J5 pushed him away out of annoyance and they both started exchanging words, in the process Mr. Vincent rushed to him and threw his teeth into the man’s chest and bit him. When J5 pushed him away, screaming in pains that he has been bitten and we were trying to find out if it’s true or not, Vincent launched another biting attack again on his ear, this time removing (biting off) some part of the ear and swallowed it”, he told Orient Daily.

Mr. J5 who was bleeding profusely after the two bloody bites, was eventually rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

A source close to the victim told Orient Daily that J5 has decided not to take the matter to the police for prosecution after relatives and friends of the attacker came to beg for forgiveness. “They came and explained that Vincent did not attack him in his true state of mind, rather he was under drunken state. And when his eyes cleared the next morning, he was sobering and begged for forgiveness”, the source said.
