In line with its leading role in the drive towards digital migration, GOtv has launched more Free-to-Air (FTA) channels on its platform.

The newly launched channels are River State Television (RStv) on channel 103, Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) on channel 104 and Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because) on channel 105.

The channels are available only in their respective states and are available to GOtv Plus, Value and Lite subscribers.

RStv, a state-owned television station in Port Harcourt, airs local entertainment, children and sports programmes as well as local and international news. EBS, an equally state-owned television service, broadcasts mainly news current affairs, entertainment and lifestyle programmes, while because, owned by the Oyo State government, is into the broadcast of news, entertainment, educational and public enlightenment programmes.

Speaking on the launch of the channels, Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said: “We are very excited about our new channel offerings and the role of GOtv in promoting local content and cultural values. It is a true testament of our vision to transform the pay- television landscape in the country and make digital television services a must – have for all Nigerians. GOtv forms part of our broad-based strategy to contribute to Nigeria’s digital migration via sensible infrastructure investment and competitive service delivery”

Ugbe further stated: “With the debut of RStv, EBS and because on GOtv, our viewers in Rivers, Edo and Oyo States now have access to high-quality audio-visual channels to enjoy local news, entertainment and sport programmes. We are enabling, with great ease, the switch from analogue to digital TV to viewers across Nigeria”.

So what happens to people from those states living on other states, they should travel back home if they want to watch their state channel.

Hhhhhmmmmm

It would have been better if the channels were restricted to Nigeria not just a state.
