As per a number of reports across Spain this evening, Real Madrid’s appeal to have Cristiano Ronaldo’s 5-match suspension reduced has been rejected.


Blancos superstar Ronaldo is currently in the midst of a hefty ban from lining out for the La Liga champions, after he was very harshly adjudged to have dived under a challenge from Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti during the latter stages of his side’s Super Cup first-leg matchup with the Blaugrana.

However, Ronaldo’s understandable protests after he was shown a second yellow card for this supposed simulation saw the Portuguese attacker take a step too far, as he pushed referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in the back.

An appeal against the 5-game ban handed down to the 32-year-old has since been lodged by Real, though it has been revealed this evening that the Court of Arbitration for Sport have rejected the proposal.


Reports suggested that the Bernabeu outfit had requested a one-match reduction on the suspension, due to the widespread agreement that Ronaldo had not actually dived in the first place.


However, Zinedine Zidane’s side will have to make do without their crown jewel for their next three fixtures, with Ronaldo having already missed the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup, as well as his side’s 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend.
