Thank you ALL  for your help ooooo!
It is greatly appreciated.  I especially want to thank those of you who took the time to write explanations. I do not take them for granted.  I was thinking though, are there any names that reflect  a lack of fear, and something that would speak of boldness in adversity.
And even, what is the Yoruba word for fear.  At least if I know the right word, I can do some research on my own.  Thank you a million times nairalanders.   I'll keep you guys posted.

Oh, BTW, I don't mind the Grandparent's involvement. I'm even a little excited about it.
Also, I don't want to name my child just so he/she "fits" into American society. I never met a person with my name, because it is VERY uncommon.  I adjusted quite well, and as a child, it gave me a sense of individuality.  No way I'm taking that away from my baby.
Thanks guys! I respect all of your opinions. Keep Em Coming!
God Bless You All!

In a few months our baby will be here.  grin
I'm American, my husband is Nigerian; I've been looking around but still haven't decided. Please give suggestions for names (and the meanings) that I should consider.  All your help is appreciated. I'll keep you posted and let you know what we decide when the baby comes! Thank you. I dont know why grandparents need be involved in naming? In fact, it is not a good idea. Which side of the grandparent are we talking about - just no need for the hassle. Of course, they can give some ideas just like we are doing on this forum but ultimately it is up to the parent.

You have the child, you name your child and insist people call your child by your preferred name.

And for the poster with Child called Ife and Sarah; I dont get why she needs separate names, either name is easy to pronounce and Sarah is a biblical name that is common all over the christian world, even the muslims have Sara. Ife is usually pronounced as eeffy

I wonder which name the child prefers?
I agree with you… my father in law wanted us to call our daughter by the name he chose, I disagreed with that and my husband agreed with me… I didn’t even like the name he gave her cause it’s a common name, it’s more like a name for older generation… ‘Abiodun’ was the name he gave her…. I may have agreed if it were another name I liked but then…. He even wanted that name to be included on her birth cert but my husband didn’t agree….

I love and respect my father in law, he is a kind man funny how my daughter took his whole face, they really look alike, I just didn’t agree with that name he chose…

eyilayomi - meaning 'this is my joy' (unisex name)

ireoluwatomi - meaning ' the goodness of the lord is enough for me'

boluwatiwe - meaning ' as the lord has spoken' (unisex)

I’m giving my second baby girl eyilayomi, the name is so unique to me, I named my first baby girl feyisayomi… this eyilayomi is so beautiful, never heard of it
