What is it?
This is a condition in which there is a delayed or impaired communication and social skills, along with restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests. It is a pervasive, childhood developmental disorder.


What causes it?
The precise cause of autism is not known. It may be related to a form of brain damage or environmental effect.


How will you know someone has it?
Symptoms usually arise during infancy and include;
1. An indifference or aversion to physical contact
2. Unusual use of toys
3. Resistance to being cuddle
4. Delay in speaking
5. Hyperactivity
6. Avoiding eye-to-eye contact, among other symptoms.


Other Known Facts
• Sufferers tend to be oblivious and so appear to ignore others.


• Younger children with autism appear to be uninterested in making friends.
