Well the logic is wrong. They actually gave out $27 : $25 with the clerk and $2 with the other guy.

The assumption of equalling the total money to 30 is also wrong.

The three guests paid $9 each totaling $27.

$25 is with the clerk, and $2 dollar is with the bellhop.

$25+$2=$27.

So, the assumption of $30 is wrong. no dollar is missing.

Ofcourse there wasn't a missing dollar....

Here's how $$$ went round:

$9 paid by 3 guests = $27,
Of the $27 paid, $25 was the revised hotel bill for the 3 guests, $2 was kept in the hand of the bellhop, that totals the $27, while $3 change was returned back to the guests.

$25 in the hotel's account + $2 with the bellhop + $3 ($1 each for 3 guests ) = $30

All dollars already accounted for with non missing...no missing $.

Nice thinking, though wrong as if the buttons are not working how's he able to call the elevator up in the morning to take him down.

the rest of the buttons are working hence he can use 1 to go down but since 0 is not working he can't type 10 .... 8 and 9 ain't working too

The elevator stops at the 7th floor. It doesn't reach the 10th. So in the mornings, he descends the steps to the 7th floor to join the elevator to the ground floor to go get his groceries. When he comes back from work, he takes same elevator to the 7th floor where it stops, then use the staircase to reach home.
