TEXT:"GO to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you."-James 5:1

There were rich men in the Bible that trusted and served God, e.g Abraham, Genesis 13:1-4; Job, Job 1:1-3; Joseph of Arimathaea, Matthew 27:57, etc. But, James was referring to rich men that trusted and served mammon.

Such men in the Bible include: the rich man in Nathan's parable to David, 2 Samuel 12:1-4; the rich farmer in Jesus' parable, Luke 12:16-21; the rich man that commended the unjust steward, in Jesus' parable, Luke 16:1-8; the rich man in the days of Lazarus, Luke 16:19-31; the rich ruler, Luke 18:18-23; etc.

These rich men that trusted and served mammon, despise the poor, they oppress the people. Their riches have a dangerous influence that spreads and affects people's behaviour. They commit fraud. The salaries of their employees are delayed, and in some cases, are not paid.

Furthermore, these rich men, condemn and kill the just. they don't have pity. Their wealth is their strong tower. They are wise I their own conceit. They glory in their riches, they don't know God. They are full of violence, lies, and deceit. They pile up treasure for themselves, but they are not rich before God.

Although, these men do all these things and many more, and think to get away with them. Sooner or later, they will face the consequences of their actions. Their riches will be corrupted. And they shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. It will be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man that trusts in his riches to enter into the kingdom of heaven, Matthew 19:23-26.

Finally, the apostle James writes, that as the sun rises with its burning heat to cause the flower to fall off the tree and rot away, so shall these rich men fade away in their ways.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
