Dance champion, Isaac Chinagorom, has lamented the conduct of music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. Recently Davido and his crew made headlines after they were "fingered" in the death of a certain youngman identified as Tagbo at a party in Lagos, among other controversies.

Chinagorom, who won the world disco competition in London in 1984 said that if the music star did not retrace his steps, he may not last long in the music scene. According to him ,in recent times, Davido has been in the news for the wrong reasons. He said if Davido thought that was the way to attract publicity and become popular, then he is making a very big mistake. Furthermore, he said Davido should know that as a music star, he is a role model to a lot of young ones who are looking up to him for direction.

“I don’t really know what is wrong with Davido. If it is youthful exuberance then he should try to control it because it is going out of hand .When I became the world disco champion, I was only 16 years old. Then, dancers from more than 85 countries came to London for the competition and I won, but I did not allow it to get into my head. So, I don’t know why he cannot control himself.

All we are hearing about him is from one negative news to another. It was not up to one week that we heard that his police escort was shooting in the air, under his instruction just to announce to people that he was around, and now it is the death of Tagbo his bosom friend at a party. Before the shooting, it was a tweet that his father would buy all the land in Igbo land which he later denied.

The question most people are asking now is, 'is he the only young artiste in Nigeria?' The reality is, if continues this way, he would not last long."

Chinagorom also used the opportunity to advise other artistes to try as much as possible to be of good conduct. According to him, Africa is not America and as such they should always try to project the values which Africans are known for. He said the attempt by some Nigerian artistes to emulate the 'gangsta' life of American music would not help them in their career.

“Killing, drugs, violence and breaking laws don’t make anybody popular. What makes you popular, what attracts you to people is your creativity, the quality of your music. As African artistes, our selling point should be our level headedness, our originality, West side and East side kind of life is not allowed in our country, because it is not our culture. We don’t engage in violence, just to make ourselves popular. So, Davido should be advised to retrace his steps before it is too late. ” Chinagorom said.
