Monkey Pox virus spreads to Lagos, two patients quarantine

Barely 24 hours after Monkey pox virus spread to Akwa Ibom, two suspected cases have also been discovered in Lagos state, increasing number of affected states to three.

Of the two suspected cases recorded, it was gathered that one of them arrived Lagos several hours ago from Bayelsa State and ate Bush meat.

It would be recalled that the outbreak of Monkey pox virus was first reported in Bayelsa state where medical doctor and 10 others were quarantined after contacting the virus.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who disclosed two suspected cases to newsmen on Monday, said that the two suspected cases were currently being investigated in the state.

“Though no confirmed case has been recorded, there is need to sensitise members of the public and provide adequate information on measures for prevention and control of the disease in line with the policy of the State government,” he added.

Idris, who confirmed that one of the suspected cases arrived the state from Bayelsa, disclosed that the two suspected cases were detected at a private hospital (name withheld).
