The specialist hospital which was initially Felix Okolo Memorial hospital, was built by a son of Nnewi, Dr Simon Okolo and handed over to the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi under the name, St Felix Catholic Specialist Hospital.
Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano said the facility is strategic to his administration's health development agenda as it will serve as a referral centre for specialist health services to Ndi Anambra.
He explained that the State Health Insurance Scheme initiated by his administration is targeted at assisting the poor to access quality medicare, noting that so far, about one hundred hospitals across the three senatorial districts , have been listed under the scheme.
Commending the donor for the decision to handover the facility to the church, Governor Obiano assured him that it would be effectively utilized , calling on other privileged Ndi Anambra to take a cue from him and support government to build a state of everyone's dream.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike who said that under the health reforms which the present administration has introduced, the primary healthcare arrangement in the state has been strengthened especially at the grassroot, noted that with the facilities being put in place, there is now a more coordinated healthcare delivery system in the state, from the primary to the tertiary level.
Earlier in an address, the Chief Executive officer of the Hospital, Very Reverend Father Peter Uzochukwu said the hospital in partnership with the Ministry of Health, is poised to avail the state a one-stop health outfit that will engender the wholesome and inclusive medicare which the Catholic Faith is known for.
On his part, the donor of the Project, Dr Okolo expressed appreciation to Governor Obiano for identifying with the project and said it speaks volumes of his passion for supporting initiatives that will make life more meaningful for Ndi Anambra.
Also speaking, an APGA Stalwart and former gubernatorial aspirant in the state, Chief Peter Nwosu said Governor Obiano is attracting partnerships that have helped improve lives, adding that Ndi Anambra owe him the courtesy of a second term.
Formal inauguration of the project as well as musical rendition by nurses in the facility formed the highpoints of the event.
