This isn't a very valid point. When a hostile points a gun at you and you maintain prolonged eye contact,its an indication of aggression on your part and since he obviously had the advantage,you might just get a bullet. Also considering our peculiar clime, if held up by robbers as an example maintaining eye contact could be construed as you trying to identify them when the need arises,so its all together not a very brilliant move.
