Barca will be playing for a place in the last eight of the Champions League this evening when they take on Stuttgart at the Nou Camp with the tie level at 1-1 after the first leg.

113 days after the last European game against Inter Milan, the Nou Camp stadium will again host a big Champions League night with the visit of Stuttgart. The reigning champions have already received a few warnings ahead of the game, the first in the game in Germany when Stuttgart showed their great physical strength and the second with the defeat of some of the other supposed favorites in this round. There’s no place for overconfidence and with a packed Nou Camp crowd behind them, the team have to build on Ibra’s valuable first leg goal.

Barca come into the match on the back of a morale boosting 3-0 win over Valencia, thanks to a brilliant second half hat trick from the superlative Messi. Now the league is on hold as the team face an all or nothing match, as they aim to reach the last eight of the competition.

Waiting on Keita

Barca will be hoping to call on an important reinforcement for the game with Seydou Keita, still not confirmed as fully fit, included in the 20-man squad. Reserve defender Fontàs is also included , whilst captain Charles Puyol, who trained normally on Tuesday after missing the Valencia game with a back injury is back in the reckoning. Both Puyol and Pique are a yellow card away from suspension. The injured Abidal and the cup tied Chygrynsky are the two first team squads who miss out on the call up for the game.

Threats from Stuttgart

Stuttgart have suffered a slight dip in form after their excellent start to the New Year, failing to win in their last three league games, but they made it clear in the first leg that they are a top class rival. In form striker Cacau and Hleb on his return to the Nou Camp, will undoubtedly pose the biggest problems, though they will need to be at their best if the Germans are to make it into the last eight.

Pep Guardiola has called up all his available 18 first team squad players, plus Keita, who is still not confirmed fit, and Andreu Fontàs, the Barça Atlètic central defender.

The squad trained at the Nou Camp on Tuesday evening. Chygrynsky, who is cup tied, trained with the rest of the players, whilst Abidal continued his recovery apart. The 21st player at the session was the young defender Andreu Fontàs.

Sweating on Keita

Keita trained with the rest of the players and Guardiola decided to include him in the squad for the game, even though has still not been given the all clear to play by the club doctors.

Puyol trains normally

As Guardiola commented in his press conference, Carles Puyol is feeling better after his back problems kept him out of the Valencia game at the weekend. The captain trained with the rest of the squad and could well be back in the side tomorrow night.

Ibra back

The boss will also be able to call on Zlatan Ibrahimovic again after the Swedish striker missed Sunday’s game through suspension following his red card against Almeria and his return means Guardiola can count on all his big guns up front for the vital game.

Overnight in a hotel

Guardiola has made a habit of keeping his players together in a hotel the night before a home Champions League game and the 20-man squad will stay overnight on Tuesday at the La Florida hotel on the Tibidabo hill overlooking the city.

The team will come back down to the Nou Camp on Wednesday morning for their final training session ahead of the game, to be held around noon.
