The UK release of Final Fantasy XIII has been much more widely publicised for the Xbox 360. Along with a number of bundle options including both the software and a console to play it on, television adverts and sponsored magazine coverage has often managed to conveniently forget that the game is also available on Sony’s PlayStation 3 – the system for which the game had originally been announced as an exclusive title worldwide. However, it appears that the additional publicity for the Xbox 360’s release of Final Fantasy XIII hasn’t gone without a hitch.

            As part of Microsoft’s continuing promotional activities for Final Fantasy XIII, a newsletter was distributed to members of the Xbox LIVE community last night. Offering up details on Square Enix’s RPG, the newsletter pointed interested parties to the Final Fantasy XIII page at the Xbox 360’s official website, xbox.com, where it seems an unfortunate mistake has been made. The trailer promoted on the page – through the use of Microsoft’s proprietary video delivery service, Silverlight, no less – is in fact comprised of footage taken from the PlayStation 3 release. Apparent through the use of Japanese voice acting (complimented by English subtitles) and text during the battle sequences, the trailer appears to be an expanded version of that used to originally unveil the development of an Xbox 360 version at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2008.

With all this added exposure for the Xbox 360 version, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Microsoft’s format would be leading the race. However, this was revealed as not being the case in the first week of retail availability.

Microsoft needs to advertise FFXIII very well on their console cause if they sell well, they are guaranteed Agito and versus. But majority of the game sales is on PS3. If Microsoft can sell at least 3mil of FFXIII on 360, they'll get the coming games. If they don't, this might be the last FF they get this generation. That's why the are doing heavy campaign on the game. They know business cause people will want the sequels of the FF so if they can't get it on 360 it will force many 360 owners to get a PS3 and they are trying to avoid that.

What Microsoft needs now is Inhouse Developers, Not paying for exclusives.

Versus is coming to the 360, I think the era of Third-party Exclusivity is almost Dead. Development of games costs too much to Leave on One Platform, Unless it's strictly Business, or a platform lack of Hardware power.

GTAIV was made for the PC, 360 AND PS3 for a whooping $100 Million. and has earned a spot as the Most expensive game.

Gran Turisomo 5 Budget has already eaten a Massive $80 Million, YES! i call it Massive, because it's on one platform only.

God OF war III eat $44 million.

Halo 3 was developed for $30 Million. . .



So, basically, Microsoft spends almost the development budget of a game on Adverts, while Sony directs Add funds to development of more games. . . Monitoring 3 platforms in the market is much more talking than only One Product.

Due to Microsoft Massive Campaign on their games, you always see High demand on 1st week but after that it drops rapidly. . on the other hand, Sony games don't sell well at launch, but they always have big legs. in coming months. Words of mouth helps Sony finish the Job.

So both of them using different Approach to sell games. Competition is really Good for any industry.

Read the article well. The sales split between PS3 and Xbox 360 versions is 54% : 46%

The doesn't take into account the tens of thousands of people downloading the pirated torrent of the game and running on their modded 360s.

even if 30 million people downloaded FF for the 360, it does not count as sales and the money does not go to square.

thats sales figure is for UK only. world wide it should be 70% (PS3) and 30% (360). . .
