i have worked in such area before. Teachers don escort students
Teachers always escort students, especially young pupils, in excursions.

Nigerians let's also lookat it from this angle, that the innocent lady(if actually she's been entrusted with those kids) may have highlighted that in her terms of engagement, with that she can't be crucified if the parents failed to point that out with the school authority. It's also possible this could be a riverine school where did kind of adventure can't be avoided.
I think the parents should be blamed for just dumping this innocent kids with incompetent day care center masquerading as schools without giving a Bleep about the their welfare while with them.
If their parents see anything bad about this, then nothing stops them from doing the needful.

I always look forward to you speaking on matters that's why I'm following you.

The parents and not the teacher are to be blamed for allowing their kids on such perilous adventure.

Most of the children, if not all can swim very well. I served in the riverine area and I could remember most of the children laughing at us whenever we put on our life jackets. They be like ' how can grown adult like this not know how to swim. To them it's a way of life. So don't crucify the teacher.

brainless comment. is it not the teachers duty to ensure their safety. is she their guest or is she in charge? stop making excuses.

the above posters were right. the pic is a classic representation of Nigeria and you are a typical Nigerian making excuses for the govt. failures.

Don't try to take things out of context and ascribe meaning to them. It's most logical for the teacher to wear the life jacket because her safety is more important than that of the children because if she goes down, the children can't save themselves but she can save them with the help of the life jacket. A study of pride of lions will give you more insight into this

Then they shouldn't have embarked on this kind of trip

They live in a riverine area, this is not the first time of entering a canoe without a lifejacket for them, and this wouldn't be the last; in fact this is just another day in their life.

I can guarantee that, some came to school that morning on canoe without any life jacket and it is very plausible that, they don't own one because their parents are poor and it's not a priority and that the life jacket on the teacher was a personal property purchased by her own money to protect herself in case the inevitable happens.

I have seen countless corpers posted to riverine areas who bought their own life jackets and if you see a picture of them with kids like this carrying out their teaching assignment, you might wrongly judge them to be selfish.

This truly a non story given the current situation in Nigeria.

And possible that, the teacher bought the jacket herself for her own protection, I have seen many corpers posted to riverine areas do it.

And been a riverine area, canoe ride without jacket is normal to these kids and they must ride one to school that morning and every day they are going to school, running an errand, etc.

I agree with your statement above

Having said that,

But disagreed with where you mentioned pmb

He met the whole system in shambles

I assure you he will fix it

You talk as if PMB wasn't part of the onslaught of incompetency in charge of Nigeria in various ways since 1966. He's been part of most coups, accused of ignoring orders of his superiors, his own president, and eventually usurping civilian authority. It was people like him that contributed to make Nigeria what it is today. Don't talk as if Buhari was a saint outsider.

If they were not in shamble, we wouldn't vote for him.

If he can't fix them, better he doesn't worsen their situation.

Just like Buhari, the teacher and Nigerian masses as the pupils.

Buhari could travel to UK at will to treat himself in one of the best hospitals and medical practitioners.
While the masses can't afford doing that. So obvious in the Aso Rock clinic with no syringe as alleged by Aishat Buhari.

Buhari is the protected teacher,
Nigerian masses are the unprotected pupils
The boat can be likened to be Nigeria
while the river on which the boat moves is all form of sicknesses.

All Nigeria past and current leaders are the teacher while everyone else, including those endangering their lives for them are the students tongue

That teacher could be a corper who could not swim and d pupils from Ijaw who could swim very well. Let's open up our mind before we start pointing fingers or saying things that are not right. #rational thinking.

This is typical Nigerian reasoning : all assumptions and conclusions with zero supporting evidence. Please stop. My brain can't take it.

This is a very sad and depressing picture. If I knew this lady and had the opportunity, I would slap her three or four times (consequences be damned), get her locked up for recklessly endangering these children, and ensure she is dismissed from her job. The id.iot is even smiling for the camera.

In any sane society, there would be a thunderous uproar at this incident but Nigeria is not a society and most Nigerians are not sane.
what if she a teacher posted to riverine community. They can swim, she can't

Would you allow your kids board this boat ?

Your comment reminds me of something I noticed a few years ago when Governor Uduaghan visited a village in Delta State. He was happy to sing and dance with the locals and of course, give a lengthy speech. There were half naked children running around, shoe-less and infested.
His mind did not register this. It was 'normal'. But he would never permit the same for his kids. Somehow we think villagers should manage and accept their lot, that is why we are where we are.

I ask again : Would you allow your kids to be in this situation ?
Guy, we need to wake up in Africa, and real fast.

Excursion or no excursion

Is it right ?

As a person who was seen on a life jacket every time I have to travel on water, surrounded mostly by those wearing none except my colleagues, I'm sorry but I can't relate.
The kids need jackets, true. Blaming it on the woman who's probably one of the very very few that agree to work in such a community is not kind.
