This is the house of the former of Zaire(now DRC) dictator,Field Marshal Mobutu Sese Seko Kukungbendu wazabanga.

The magnificent structure constructed on a large expanse of land(equivalent to a minimal game park) was built in his home village called Gbadolite at the cost £100m.

It was considered the " epitome of decor and elegance " in Zaire n beyond. The super structure was decorated with Italian marble, katangese high -karate Gold plated doors & windows, Spanish floor tiles, automatic American air conditioning ,Isreal state of the art communication systems, king size swimming pool, a private airport control tower, 3-4 inch g bullet proof glassware, 5 presidential suites, 6 Jacuzzi's & surrounded by a mini game park full of all kinds of wildlife including Indian Tigers .

The structure which , at the time of Mobutu's death was ranked one of the most magnificent private castles ever owned by a sitting head of state, is now home to wild rats, tropical snakes , gecko lizards ,mega snails , scorpions, birds & thousands of wild insects.

Dictators should learn from this. Where are Mobutu’s kids to take over their father’s estate?

If they haven't got the cash to maintain the structure it would end up a ghetto.

Vanity upon vanity.

The state should take over the property and make good use of it than allowing such a magnificent edifice to rot away.

It can be converted to tourist area and earn revenue for the government or even for charity.

Food for thought for those who amass wealth while others wallow in abject poverty.

Nothing but vanity!

You have spoken very thoughtfully. The bigger picture is not just Mobotu but a whole country that lacks MANAGEMENT culture. Which seems to be more of a BLACK AFRICAN way of living. Nigeria for example couldnt manage the systems of wealth generation through Agriculture which their masters left for them, the groundnut pyramids, and e.t.c even while they opted for crude oil. The refinaries ended up NOT FUNCTIONING resulting to importing what the country is blessed with its all as a result of lack of MANAGEMENT CULTURE which seems inherent.
You, are very right. If nothing at all, that is an Architectural Master Piece that could be converted to tourist area and earn money for the government, though money for some other rascals who will embezzel them, yet its better than allowing this magnificient building to just rot away.

I don't doubt this for a second. The entirety of that guy's 3 decade-long reign was nothing but total lootocracy and kleptocracy. Sharing this will not change a thing though. African leaders will only go on looting. Or what has it done to change Kabila Jnr? Or do you think he has refused to give up power simply because he wants to serve the people? DRC's leaders have always been interested in looting and pillaging that very wealthy land and it did not start today neither did it start with its African leaders. It goes as far back as Leopold II's Congo Free State which later metamophorsed into Belgian Congo in 1908.

This has always been the bane of the black man and some re still getting set to loot theirs when the opportunity comes . Money is good bt it should never be amassed at the expense of the masses,if u work and earn so much legitimately u can do whatsoever u like with ur funds, nobody will query u bt we should always have it in mindnthat nothing lasts forever and at the end everything is vanity and we should know that it's only our reputation that would outlast us..

It is a big mistake. Elsewhere the mansion would have been upgraded to a museum, a public library, a school, a performing arts theater etc.
