My question is very simple and straight forward, is there a condition for palmwine permissibility in Islam? Palmwine is widely acclaimed to be medicinal and it's also used in the preparation of some medicines. So on this basis, is palm wine permissible in Islam? N:B I'm assuming Palmwine is not really an alcohol until fermentation . 5 Likes 1 Share

Is that what Yoruba called Ęmù or Omi ágbôn Can't tell the difference but I have never consumed "ęmù but i have definitely drank "omi" agbon before. The thing is, whatever intoxicates is haram. This is clear cut proof. Omi agbon doesn't intoxicates if you drink directly after puncturing hole in it, drain the water and drink it. I have done this on numerous occasions and no problem. Also, coconut (omi àgbón) water is sold in the supermarkets and it is not labeled alcohol. I have similar thread created yrs back here https://www.nairaland.com/2173406/drinking-palmwine-sin As you rightly said, palmwine might not be alcohol until it is fermented. You know why?. Many of this fruits we consume naturally like apple, nectarine, plum etc and also vegetables like spanish etc, wine are actually extracted from them after fermentation but eating those fruits and veggies in their natural forms is not haram. 2 Likes |

Empiree: Palm wine is not Omi agbon (coconut water). Palm wine is an alcoholic drink and from my understand alcohol generally is haram 1 Like |

Moderation is the koko... taking any form of alcohol moderately isn't haram... it gets to haram point when intoxicated... Read your Quran properly and don't let all these propagandists fool you... |

I think the sap gets fermented before it is called palmwine. Making it an alcoholic drink and in that case strictly forbidden with sins accruing to the one who buys, the one who sells and the one who drinks. As for the cryptocurrency thin tho. For value of money, Islam deliberates on three elements, namely mal (wealth), taqawwum (legal value) and thamaniyyah (monetary usage). Upon analysing the features of bitcoin, it tends to possess both the features of mal and taqawwum, but not thamaniyyah. Therefore from the perspective of money in Islam, bitcoin probably misses the mark. Being rather volatile in the past leading to price speculation and with no authoritative central body, elements of gharar do exist. This contradicts with one of the main pillars of Shariah compliance. I really don't know much about cryptocurrencies. And so far they have even an atom of riba (usury) it is strictly forbidden. 2 Likes |

Aliyuminna: What is medicinal is only permissible, if in and of itself; that thing is permissible. As for intoxicants, then no doubt; they are haraam. Allaah, the most exalted says; “O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling, and Al-Ansaab, and Al-Azlaam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaytaan’s (Satan’s) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful” [al-Maa’idah 5:90]. Also, Allaah's prophet (upon him be peace and blessings) forbade that one uses something which is haraam as a drug. Take a look at these narrations; Abu Dawood narrated in his Sunan that Abu’l-Darda’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has sent down the disease and the cure, and He has made for every disease a cure. So treat sickness, but do not treat it with anything haraam.” In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated from Taariq ibn Suwayd al-Ju’fi that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about alcohol and he forbade him or told him not to make it. He said: “But I make it as a remedy.” He said: “It is not a remedy, it is a disease.” So the matter becomes clear that things that are haraam cannot be used as medicine.
