The Ipad is a fashion accessory(honestly, wots d point really & wot are we buying smartphones for?), go for it if you are an apple fanboy & u have money 2 blow.
Believe me, d sales figures are as a result of quality advertising( even me dat has sworn never 2 buy apple was thinking about it) and apple loyalty
The apps are very expensive as well as much as $10 or even more meaning u are spending a lot of money to make u spend more money.
There are reasonable alternatives if u really like d tablet idea, d ms tablet, hp, nokia and motorolla would be releasing theirs as well soonish

For a new "revolutionary" laptop, pretty Good. We're talking around $699.

You guys gotta understand that this is just a toy to have around the house, effortless for quick entertainment.

Even tho I wouldn't buy it.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by zaibatsu(m): 3:01am On Apr 06, 2010
Thread topic's a bit misleading. That said, the iPad's "wow" factor should not be underestimated. In 2007, Apple released the iPhone and it's list of deficiencies was an arm long; but it was (and still is) excellent in everything it did do.

Apple got their fingers burnt by the Newton in the late 90s and Jobs is not about to let that happen again. Underwhelming as the iPad may seem, it will grow on you, Apple will make truckloads of money from it and you just might find yourself - a red-eyed skeptic- buying one in the not too distant future.

Remember the Appstore,

The iPad is definitely not  as bad as most have taken it to be.

Had the opportunity to test run it and I do agree that it has its draw backs.

I believe it is still under development and series of packages will soon be out there in the market for users to buy.

Students, Kids, Graphic Artists, Cartoonist, Specialist in Animatronics, Architects are few amongst the kinds of users that will appreciate the work of the iPad.

-------------

If you are not convinced that the iPad is good my advice is that you wait for more comments from ideal users.

-------------

If you can be patient for about 6 months to 1 year you will have many more products (options) to choose.

--------------------

Microsoft may satisfy you by the time Slate is available in the country.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by InesQor(m): 5:52am On Apr 06, 2010
The iPAD is a joke, except you want to buy it to decorate your house, or for your dog to drool over it.

Microsoft got back on track with the Windows 7. Let's hope they don't mess it up with the next OS.

Don't see the iPad as a PC replacement. See it as a device that fills the niche between Netbooks and laptops. An intuitive, easily connected device that's portable and can fulfil many of your entertainment needs.

Sure, $499 is expensive, but that isn't much more than what the Amazon Kindle DX costs. And that has just one function.
I have a Kindle DX. it does what it does pretty well, but for reading reference books and for reading in color, the iPad is the way to go.
When you add the fact that the iPad can provide 10 hours of video on a single charge, the purchase starts making some sense.

I don't buy into the argument that the iPad is a computer replacement. but i'm buying one for the simple reason that the darn thing should keep me entertained, plus provide access to many newspapers and magazines.

That said, i'll buy only the cheapest possible one ($499)
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by jessefly: 9:54am On Apr 06, 2010
from the posts iv seen wont be surprised if apple recalls all deir ipads cos dat is the only logical thing for them to do lest they come up with technological disaster of the year and see their product phase out very quickly
well good for them cos u cant replace sleekness with functionality rada u combine them

Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by samir101ng(m): 11:06am On Apr 06, 2010
The problem i have with is not with the Ipad itself but with Apple and all other technological companies. Apple knows all the deficiencies and drawbacks of the Ipad. They just wont give you a complete product as doing so will mean the end of a revenue stream. Instead, they will release a first generation ipad and over-hype the product which they are good at. Then when things start settling down, they will release a 3G version or one with a usb port (Hardware Support). Finally, for the Coupe De la Grace, they release an Ipad 3GS that can multi-task and run much faster. By then, Apple will be smiling to the bank after taxing all the money in your pocket. Buying an Ipad in Nigeria will be one of 2 things :- to show off (effyzie) or a case of too much money.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by Thelonius: 11:29am On Apr 06, 2010
No doubt the I-pad will start some movement in the industry, which is good for consumers as other manufacturers and developers make rapid iterations to their designs and prototypes to beat the I-pad. The collaboration of MS and Hp will give us the "slate" before the year runs out, a good config and at similar price, though the apple products have a mass market and youth appeal.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by ochukoccna: 12:06pm On Apr 06, 2010
Regardless of all the hype, the IPad is a glorified e-book reader and picture viewer.
And to think people were queuing to pay 600 dollars-90Gs- for it? shocked shocked

Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by alleno: 2:17pm On Apr 06, 2010
First of all, we need to clear the air. It is NOT Microsoft Slate, it is HP SLate.

Also, only someone who knows nothing about computers will ever place the iPad beside and computer. The iPad is a glorified iTouch.
It really surprises me how someone can say the iPad will start a movement in the industry. One needs to ask, what industry.

It does not multitask. I don't need to go into the details of what that means, but for those who don't, it cannot do what Nokia does.
Why would i need an iPad when i have an iPhone, an Itouch and a computer PC/MAC.

Some people are just helping Apple raise the hype without knowing anything about the product. And for the life of me, i don't understand
why the iPad will finally take Microsoft out of the Market. In what category will that be, Multitouch Surface, Speed, Efficiency, what!!!

@Nazzyon - What do you mean by Graphic Artists, Cartoonist will appreciate the work of an iPad. You want me to use the iPad to design
a site or a brief. I wonder what you claim you tested! And what app on the iPad will a Graphic Artist use?

And when will people start knowing the difference between the two companies. Microsoft is involved in things Apple can only dream of, do you
have any idea what Microsofts product are and how many of them.

Apple is good, but not that good. And they need to know when they have missed the mark and stop ripping people off.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by 4llerbuntu(m): 2:24pm On Apr 06, 2010
apples marketing is great, and the product can be regarded as a success already

WHY? === just look at the on and on discussion on it, even me of the ignoramus school now knows wat an ipad is!!!

now thats good marketing grin grin grin grin
look some of us have more money than needs, they can afford to buy a 1000 dollar calculator for all they care,  good for them.  im still finding it difficult to shell out for a good netbook, na ipad bush man like me wan come buy? tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue

Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by manny4life(m): 5:32pm On Apr 06, 2010
@alleno,

I've always wondered same thing what's with the iPad, to me its just a glorified iTouch if I'm correct. The only things I need is music on the go, watch movies, with several other apps, I'm good yet I have a blackberry though. Besides my 14.1 inch laptop is great, portable carry everywhere I go if I'm gonna use it, so why on hell would I want an iPad?

For people comparing Apple Inc to Microsoft, looks like you guys need some reality if u think Apple would take out Microsoft. First off this are companies although in same market for technology, Apple deals more with Hardware than software while Microsoft is a well known software company. Apple is not a direct competitor of Microsoft, Google is. I'm yet to see the company that would break Microsoft's monopoly, if I'm wrong tell me even Google is trying hard and smart yet they can't because of consumer perception.

Let me ask, what exactly am i supposed to use my dictionary for here?
"Students, Kids, Graphic Artists, Cartoonist, Specialist in Animatronics, Architects are few amongst the kinds of users that will appreciate the work of the iPad."

You must be very dull, to refer me to a dictionary. You claim to have tested the iPad. I have one here. Tell me one single app a graphic artist can use on it, or according to you "A SPECIALIST IN ANIMATRONICS".
Oga, there is not need to claim what you have not achieved. You have not seen an iPad yet and neither have you tested any. If you have you will know that there is nothing the people you have listed will want to use it for apart from play.

In case you still need to refer me to a dictionary, i will advise you just explain what you meant as you can see, i am not the only one who "misunderstood" you.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by nazzyon(m): 7:35pm On Apr 06, 2010
I do not wish to argue with you.

Did you miss the part where I said "I believe it is still under development and series of packages will soon be out there in the market for users to buy".

Most of the devices in the market serves purposes that many people may never dream of.

It is true that I do not  own an iPad like you claim you do but the time I spent with the device I had ideas of the purposes it would serve.

I do not believe in using a device for the sole purpose its manufacturer said it will serve.
--------

Just enjoy your device.
