thanks for this bro...
Heard about the paediatric thing, it's lovely...
I'll do like u said, plan writing plab 1 in March, going for ietls in January..

Is there an implication for writing plab 2 and GMC registration without doing NYSC?

Hello chiefs, greetings.

Please I need professional counsel.

First, my background.

1. I'm a 4th year medical student. Married for five years now with two boys.

2. I have a B. Sc (second class upper) in Human Physiology (2012) and an M. Sc in the same field (2017). I've already done the compulsory National Service (2013/2014).

3. I am 30 years old.

4. My wife has a B. Sc in Human Anatomy (2012) and an M. Sc in Public Health (2017). She has four years work experience in the NGO sector.

Please my chiefs and seniors,
My primary focus is to move my family abroad. Yesterday, a senior friend of mine told me about PLAB...and the possibility of moving them over through this pathway.

I really don't want to waste any extra second. I want to ensure I get done with this process in the shortest possible time. At the moment, I'm even considering starting my attempts next year (my fifth year). This is where I need your counsel. Is the fifth year too early to start attempting? I'm considering how hectic house job is, don't know how one would have the time to study for the exams and all. Would my certificates give me any extra advantage?

Secondly, what advantage would my wife's qualifications offer? My senior friend mentioned that if she manages to find her way to nursing, her advantages would be enormous....even if she does Post Basic Nursing. Does she need to go that far?

Lastly, when I cross to the UK, how soon can I move them over?

I read that if I practice for a year in the UK, I can make it to Australia (my main target). Is this still true? Have their been any changes in recent times?

Finally, how can I access a residency program soonest? Is writing PLAB and all just for practicing overseas?

Thanks sirs and ma'ams.

You cant take plab as a medical student because you will need your primary medical certificate to register for it, but u can take ielts or oet as a medical student but however there both expire within 2 years, thats means after passing ielts you should pass plab 1 and 2 and do your Gmc registration within 2 years , for now you can start gathering informations as regards the exams, finance, materials needed, or u can start passively preparing for the exams.

You can search for road to uk, it has almost everything you need

Hello oritna94; the PLAB 1 result was release yesterday, and I passed, I'm now making headway towards moving in to Manchester for PLAB2.
I'm updating you here, so u can be encouraged to proceed. Hopefully ,I'll be going for that in july/August.

Is it in Nigeria that you took the PLAB 1 exam?

Hi chiefs.

I'm a 500 level medical student here in Nigeria. I have interest in O and G as a possible specialty. I also have strong interest in moving my wife and two sons to the UK via PLAB on graduation.

My worry is, recent research suggests that there's a steady decline in the demand for male gynaecologists, especially in the Western world. I even fear this may be the fate of male gynaecologists in Africa in the nearest future. Also, some senior colleagues mentioned that it's relatively tough to secure a residency slot in this field in the UK....compared to family medicine, that is.

My chiefs, I'm not panicking, really. I also am not running faster than time. I know I have to pass my final MB before I begin considering all these. This I'm doing with every possible ounce of dedication. I just like planning ahead.

So, is it unwise to maintain my interest in O and G considering these factors? Aside family medicine, what other specialties are relatively less challenging to get in in the UK particularly? How best do I approach this issue?

Thanks chiefs as you reply.

Kindest regards.

To my knowledge, Canada does not give the same level of Advanced standing that Australia gives to drs with at least 1 year uk practice experience. Australia will allow such drs to come here and practice either in Gp or hospital, and after 1 year they are given full general unlimited registration. Thus removing the burden of AMC 1 and 2 exams.
I’d not rush to Canada as an overseas trained doctor / IMG with 1 year uk experience. Best to attempt that with uk / Irish specialist registration. Any time sooner and you’d be frustrated. But the terms and rewards of medical practice here in Australia is the best of all all the developed world.
My apologies for late reply. All the best. Cheers

Yes that's true. Canada is a lot different for IMGs, even those with years of experience like my brother and I.

So I heard of the recent massive rates of registration for the PLAB exam and I'm a little worried that by the time I'm done with medical school ( should be more than a year from now ) and finish my house job, there won't be any more space or opportunity to write the exam and move to the UK. Is this worry valid ? If yes , what other developed countries are relatively easy to get into as a Nigerian doctor
