AKERMAS ENERGY LIMITED IS LOOKING FOR BLASTERS

 Contract Position
 Duration: 3 Years

INTRODUCTION
Akermas Energy is an indigenous company incorporated to deliver value added services to her clients. We aim at providing engineering and integrated solutions in developing new facilities, and highly conversant with classification rules & other standards and codes for Oil and Gas.

JOB SUMMARY
The blaster is responsible for planning and loading the blast carts and efficiently operating the blast machine and equipment, troubleshooting equipment repairs as required and accurately completing all required paperwork. He is also responsible for moving material from the blast cart as well as setting up the paint booths and Material Staging – Sets pieces in paint booth accordingly for painters to begin work, understanding straight lines, placement of materials for flipping, as well as maximizing the use of space available.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Reading blueprints/instructions and examining surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
 Efficient and Accurate Operation of Blasting Machine and Equipment.
 Cart Loading and Planning.
 Performs routine maintenance on the blaster.
 Crane, Rigging and Flipping.
 Analyzes the pieces to go through the blaster to appropriately plan the location of the pieces on the blast cart.
 Marks pattern of drill holes or issues drilling instructions for depth and placement of blast holes.
 Inserts, packs, or pours explosives, such as dynamite, ammonium nitrate, black powder, or slurries into blast holes and compacts charge, using tamping rod.
 Efficiently operates the blast machine maximizing output while maintaining the quality of the product.
 Positions assembled primer and blasting cap in hole at depth that will cause most effective explosion.
 Connects electric wire to primer and covers charge or fills blast hole with clay, drill chips, sand, or other material.
 Tamps material to secure charge and prevent force of blast from escaping through blast hole.
 Inspects blasting area to ensure that safety laws are observed and signals workers to clear area.
 Connects wires to electrical firing device and pushes plunger, turns dial, or presses buttons to set off single or multiple blasts.
 Compile record of blasts.
 Keep inventory of blasting agents on hand.
 Transport blasting agents to blasting area, using light truck.
 Read instructions or diagrams, lay out drill pattern and determine depth and diameter of blast holes and conduct field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required.
 Assemble or direct other workers to assemble primer charges using selected detonators, fuses, detonating cords and other materials.
 Load explosives in blast holes by hand or direct movement of bulk explosives trucks to load holes.
 Connect electrical wires, detonating cords or fuses into series and connect series to blasting machines; press handle or button to detonate charges.
 Handle, store and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations and ensure that safety procedures are observed.
 May operate air-track, rotary, down-the-hole or other drilling machines to drill blast holes or may direct drilling of blast holes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, and able to demonstrate a positive attitude towards safety in the workplace. A Blaster’s critical tasks include:
 The ability to understand and give written and oral orders.
 Shall be qualified, by reason of training, knowledge, or experience, in the field of transporting, storing, handling, and use of explosives, and have a working knowledge of State and local laws and regulations which pertain to explosives.
 Knowledge of cart capacity and blaster.
 Ability to read and understand blast profiles.
 Shall be knowledgeable and competent in the use of each type of blasting method used.
 Shall be required to furnish satisfactory evidence of competency in handling explosives and performing in a safe manner the type of blasting that will be required.
 Shall be in good physical condition and not be addicted to narcotics, intoxicants, or similar types of drugs.
 Help in surface mining and quarrying or construction may be required for blasters.
 Provincial blasting license is usually required for blasters.
 Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
 Ability to complete projects on-time and on-budget.
 Excellent technical knowledge
