Late Yesterday, I was at a hangout with some guys and some people were celebrating American President Donald Trump declaring Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

This made me wonder if we are so backward in this country, can't read and can't research.

Jerusalem has always been the political capital of Israel at least for the past 40 years or more.

Tel Aviv is to Israel, what New York is to United States of America and Lagos is to Nigeria.

Jerusalem is the official capital of Israel by the Israeli law. However, the economic, cultural, media, art and commerce capital of Israel is Tel-Aviv metropolitan area. Due to political and historical reasons, most of the countries place their embassies and representatives in Israel in Tel-Aviv, and not in Jerusalem.

Due to the Bi territorial nature of Jerusalem, the United nation countries don't have embassies in Jerusalem. West Bank and Gaza have been under contention for a long time and now that the road map for peace in the middle east is being observed. Trumps declaration of recognizing Jerusalem in its entirety by approving the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem is a miscalculated move.

Jerusalem is the location of the parliament (Knesset), the residences of the president and the prime minister, most government ministries, the supreme court, as well as many other official and semi-official national institutions such as the Bank of Israel, the National Library, the Academy of the Hebrew Language, the National Archive, the World Zionist Organization, the Chief Rabbinate, and many others. According to the Israeli census, Jerusalem is also Israel’s most populous city.

Because Jerusalem was not defined as part of any country in the 1947 UN partitioning plan, no country officially recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, following the logic that if a city is not a part of a country it cannot be its capital. This means that all the embassies are located in Tel-Aviv, Israel’s second most populous city, although there are a few consulates in Jerusalem.

However, no other country recognizes East Jerusalem as Israeli territory and as such, every country decided to stay out of Jerusalem altogether and build their embassy in Tel Aviv.

Israel is not the only country to have embassies NOT in their capital, The Netherlands have all embassies in The Hague, but the capital is Amsterdam.
There are 10 countries that have their US Embassy in New York city,

So I don't know what the fuss about Trump declaring Jerusalem as Israel capital is about, as no country has the right to declare the capital city of another sovereign country.

Tel Aviv:

Defense, Culture, Negev and Galilee development.

Jerusalem:

Internal Affairs, Foreign, Healthcare, Education, Transportaion, Finance, Economy, Law, Welfare, Construction, Energy and Water, Communication, Environment, Religion, Diplomacy, Tourism, Immigration, Science and Technology, Senior Citizens.

Rishon LeTzion:

Agriculture.

Actually most people believe Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel and that is why you see people calling Trump God sent for having the courage to declare Jerusalem the capital and moving the embassy there.
