Kogi State Government has presented certificates of appointment to 21 royal fathers from across the state, and appointed 20 others as traditional rulers to strengthen the traditional institution in the state.

Governor Bello, who was represented at the presentation of certificates to the royal fathers in Lokoja by Engr Abubakar Ohere, his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said “the era of imposition of unpopular candidates on the traditional stool is over” as exemplified by the smooth completion of the process.
He noted that the appointment of the 21 monarchs followed due process and best practices as indicated by the Kogi State Deposition and Establishment of Traditional Council Law No 23 of 2006.

He charged the monarchs to ensure peace and to partner with government to rid the state of crimes and criminality, stressing that his proactive measures on security has started yielding result with the arrest of criminals across the state.

The governor reminded the newly-installed monarchs that his policy of inclusion of the Fulani herdsmen into the area, local and state council of chiefs remained sacrosanct.

According to him, the move is to bring unity among Fulani herdsmen and farmers, thereby reducing friction.

To include Fulani herdsmen is the most important assignment of the Monarchs as that is the only way to ensure peace and survival of Kogi people and others that passes through Lokoja-Abuja highway.
