d best way 2 slice is 2 1st wash d onoins under runnig water then take ur face aside while slicing u cnt cut ur fingr cos u'l sure use ur brain.

^^^ ahh yes. i forgot the turn your head away part. but u can't do this unless u're very familiar with the workings of the onion and the knife. it so happens that u shed a few tears b4 u can pull this off without cutting urself.

@poster, if the onion was refrigerated, u can slice it without tears simple. just peel the onion, wash and refrigerate. that way u save ur tears for more important issues. cheers

call me weird but i like the tears
whenever i slice onions, i feel like my eyes are being cleansed of impurities. when i'm not in the mood for tears, cut them in a bowl of water.
i heard chewing gum while cutting also helps but i've never tried that.

place it in a cold/running refrigerator for 5-10 min before slicing it

You can get an onion dicer. If you don't want to spend money , you can try a blender you have on-hand and chop it in there. I've actually never tried that (I will give it a try someday), but I'm sure it should get the job done, just as long as you chop, not grind. But I know that would take a bit too much time. You can try the fridge tip. It does work, but you'll still feel it in your eyes a lil.' Other than those, just be brave and cut manually like you've been doing.

If you have a match box, put two or three match sticks in your mouth while cutting. The chemical on the tip of the sticks, will absorb the chemical coming out of the onion that's making your eye water.

Also, freeze the onion before slicing. That stops the release of the chemical.

Though, it is actually good to "cry" when slicing onions. It helps to cleanse your eyes.
