Examination comes with stress and anxiety. The Nigerian Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), a major entrance examination into Nigerian Universities, is no different. But as every examination comes with uniqueness, over the years, different methods have been devised to approaching the exam.

Here, highlighted are easy and efficient steps to studying and scoring above 280 in JAMB (CBT/UTME):

STEP 1. Create a workable timetable

A reading schedule that will give time for leisure and other daily routine activities. It is however important that the timetable is strictly followed with unflinching discipline. With an easy-to-follow timetable, there will be no drudgery in keeping up with it.

STEP 2. Aid your reading schedule with a Curruculum

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) provides Candidates who are sitting for the UTME with Syllabus to guide them on areas of concentration, which should be maximized for the of the Exam.

STEP 3. Practice on various past questions

Practice on various past questions. It is very important get past JAMB-UTME question because it is no longer news that likely 60% of questions set by JAMB come from past questions.

Ensure to have notebooks for the four subjects you plan on writing and use these notebooks in answering the various questions you will be taking on the exam day.

STEP 4. Daily Examinations

Take yourself through daily test of knowledge after reading in a particular field of topics . This self – examination gives room for concentrating on weak points and advancing strong points.

STEP 5 . Work with a group

Work in a small group of friends , intending to take the same examination by discussing and debating on topics in subjects related to the examination.

STEP 6. Building familiarity with the nature of the exam

The UTME comes with objectives , therefore there are tendencies that a candidate , in trying to beat time , opts for answers before reading a question to its conclusion . This can lead to failure as a result of not creating an avenue of understanding a question specifically before choosing an answer. And because the options given share same similarities , candidates are most likely to choose wrongly.

The UTME questions have evasive nature I.e , a candidate might be tempted to know and yet the options are not stating clearly that he has an answer to the question , therefore there are temptations to spend more time on a particular question . So it is advisable to always move on to the next question for a later time when situations as these arise.

N.B : Time constraints is a major challenge for UTME candidates , most times , while students are familiar with the questions and could have answered it if given the time , they fail to because of the limited time which are deliberately made short by the examiners as one of the exam’s principal nature . Intending candidates should therefore take , for the most essence , time management in their preparation for the exam.
