Court orders presidential candidate, aide’s arrest over arms possession

A magistrates’ court sitting in Segbwema, Kailahun District in eastern Sierra Leone, has ordered that a presidential candidate, Kamaraimba Mansaray, contesting in the country’s 2018 election be arrested, over allegations that he unlawfully possessed small arm.

It was gathered that Mansaray, Chairman and Leader of the Alliance Democratic Party, would be arrested after he failed to appear in court, even though he had been summoned.

The presidential candidate was said to have been charged alongside one of his aides, Mohamed Bangura, who was accused of malicious damage and wounding, which led him to stand trial before court.
