I’d say it depends on whose airspace the child was born and the country’s immigration policy regarding births within their airspace.
I hate to argue but I totally disagree with you on that, airspace really? When its not a war scene. Well that's your own opinion though.
Re: What Is The Citizenship Of A Baby Born On An Airplane? by tdayof(m): 12:13am On Jan 28, 2018
On international airspace : nationality of the airline.
In a sovereign airspace. Depending on the country's law, a country like USA will offer you citizenship but some it's automatically the mother's nationality.

It’s always the country where the plane was registered.
Re: What Is The Citizenship Of A Baby Born On An Airplane? by Spatta: 2:42am On Jan 28, 2018
The Airline conveying the Mother must summon the Pilot to write a Birth Certificate for the Baby and note the Location in the Air where the baby touched town on the plane. consequently the Baby will be issues a Passport from from both the country of departure and the destination of the plane without much ado

I rest my case

Here’s some excerpt:

“In the United States, even a child born in the country's waters or airspace is a U.S. citizen by birth in accordance with the principle of jus soli (right of the soil) -- that's the right of anyone born in the territory of a state to nationality or citizenship.”

It is not very common for babies to be born while flying at 36,000 feet, but when it does happen it is generally a newsworthy event for a plane to land with one more passenger than it had when it took off. This week, a mom gave birth to a healthy baby on an Air France flight from Paris to New York before they could reach the ground at JFK. Luckily, there was a doctor on board to manage the situation until they could get the mama and baby some on-the-ground medical attention, and in this case, everything seems to have worked out just fine.

A common question that comes up when this happens (in addition to does the baby get free flights?) is what citizenship is a baby given when they are born on an airplane?

It depends. Most countries have derivative citizenship based on the citizenship of the parent (s). Countries like Nigeria and US have derivative citizenship. If the woman in question is a US citizen, then her baby is automatically a US citizen.

Re: What Is The Citizenship Of A Baby Born On An Airplane? by linearity: 6:07am On Jan 28, 2018
The citizenship of such a child is determined by a number of factors e.g.

The country the airline is registered, the country whose airspace the airline was flying through when the birth occurred, country to which the parents are citizens, the laws of each of these countries.

Many times, such a child is eligible for citizenship in multiple countries. The place of birth shown on the birth certificate will be “In The Air”, many people carry this type of birth certificate today.

If it occurs over an international airspace; the factors to be considered is the country of registration of that Airline, the laws of that country and the country of citizenship of the parents.

OP, here lies your answer.

Any baby born on a flight assumes the citizenship of the country that owns the flight, as the flight is considered an extension of the country's territory.

So in this scenario, the child is a French citizen, haven been born inside Air France, irrespective of the geographical definition of the flight at the said time.

Not true, UK does not have derivative citizenship.

Children given birth to within UK, can only acquire citizenship if the parents are citizens or if they have indefinite leave to remain.

Op, citizenship is derived
1. By birth
a) Place of origin of your parents
b) Place of your birth eg US
2. By legal adoption
3. By naturalisation.
4. By marriage.

Your answer lies in number 1.
the answer depends on the country's immigration policy

For instance for UAE nothing for you
Same as china
Same as Russia etc.......

Re: What Is The Citizenship Of A Baby Born On An Airplane? by kelvinpilot: 9:19am On Jan 28, 2018
The country where the plane was currently located before the child was born.
If it was over the Atlantic ocean, then the child belongs to the Marine spirit. If it is over India, the child is an Indian and may likely worship cows.
If it is over Alqaeda, then the child is a terrorist.
If it is over Edo, then the child is not a child but your ancestor who is flying with the plane.

You just thought u did something funny
