Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) which was closed down last year due financial problem has been ranked best state university in Nigeria.

In spite of repeated workers strike that held down academic and other activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in the last one year, the institution has been ranked as the best state university in Nigeria.

A statement by the institution’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Lekan Fadeji, said the latest ranking by Webometric, which puts the Institution as 14th overall in the country and 3680 in the World, goes to confirm that despite the debilitating effect of the industrial crisis, LAUTECH’s leadership position among its peers remains unchallenged.

Reacting to the news, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, reiterated the commitment of management to ensuring that the Institution’s present financial position is not allowed to affect its determination to train eggheads to man the various technological spaces of the future.

He added that the Governing Council, led by Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, has assured that whatever the university needs to stay on top would be encouraged.

LAUTECH had in the past been named the number one state university in Nigeria by various ranking organizations, including the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Webometrics ranking of world universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, is a ranking system for the world’s universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web contents (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and their impacts.

Pray,tell what would you then rank this same institution if it were,say in the nearest future,get shut down for a whole decade? I now believe these rankings are either fake or fabricated

Rankings are done based on quality of research works from university Professors as well as quality of graduates. This shows that LAuTECH Professors were still writing papers and the graduates were doing well while the Strike was ongoing.

Webometric methodologies are skewed towards online presence. So if LAUTECH had better online presence, then she'll adjudged to be the best. However, Webometric is not a reliable, recognised and acceptable ranking agency globally. ARWU, QS Rankings and The Times Education are the most recognised.

The ranking is based on research paper citations of the institution. Even if a University strikes for 10 years nd the lecturers keep publishing papers, such university wil maintain its ranking.

Just say you don't understand the methodology before making a shame of yourself. But lemme break it down simple for you. Webometrics is a ranking which uses four bibliometric tools(presence, impact, openness and excellence) first created by Lee Bernard to assess universities on the web by virtue of their academic contents. It rates the global relevance of research output according to how universities all over the world uses them.

AAUA is an advance secondary school...A university without faculty of Engineering, faculty of basic medical sciences and lacks some departments ...Lautech college of health science is better than the entire AAUA.
