Nigeria play writer, actor, dramatist and scholar, professor Akinwumi Ishola is dead. He died this morning after battling with illness for over two years at the age of 79.

Prof Akinwumi Isola was born in Ibadan in 1939, attended Labode Methodist Shool and Wesley College. He studied at the University of Ibadan, earning a B.A in French. He also earned an M.A. in youruba literature from the University of Lagos in 1978 before commecing academic work as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University were he was appointed a Professor IN 1991.
