ABSU TWO WEEKS BREAK: The true story

=Ahamefula Israel =

According to an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil right movement, Martin Luther King JR, "The Function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically".

Having said that, one will liken the misinterpretation of Abia State University's Senate decision to give their students two weeks break to enable those that are yet to pay 50% of their tuition fee to do so, as an opposite representation of Martin Luther King Jr’s view on the function of education.

There is no gain saying that the Professor Ikonne led administration have been taking critical steps that will not only develop the institution but improve the living condition of both staff and students of the University in line with his promises. This include the E-administration which led to the online registration of courses and online assessment of result by students, etc.

The above mentioned decision that has been misinterpreted by the general public is in the best interest of the students.
This is because, the current administration have abolished manual system of course registration and assessment of result with the electronic method. That is to say, if you don’t register your courses before exams, you will not be able to access your results after exams. The only way to do so is when you pay 50% of your tuition fee.

This decision arose because over 70% of the entire students population are yet to pay 50% of their school fees since the session began in September 2017.

You will recall that 2017/2018 first semester exam was earlier scheduled to start tomorrow Monday 19th February 2018, and if this should continue as earlier scheduled, it will negatively affect a good number of its students.

That is the reason why the Vice-Chancellor, upon the authority of senate, magnanimously announced the two weeks break to enable those concerned to do the needful as to protect their studentship.

Students who were unable to register their courses last semester can relate the negative implications, as there was no way to upload their result after exams.

Yes, I understand the current economic situation of our country, but in all, the truth needs to be told.
