Nigeria’s authorities need to disclose the whereabouts of pro-Biafran leader Nnamdi Kanu or risk a mass boycott of next year’s election, his wife said in an interview broadcast Monday.

Uchechi Kanu said her husband, who has not been seen for six months, should be “the number one issue” in the run-up to the February 2019 vote for a new president and parliament.

“Where is he? You need to provide him, at least tell us where he is,” she told the BBC Yoruba language service in an interview in English.

“You need to at least do something before you run an election, otherwise we’re not going to vote.”

In a separate interview to the BBC Igbo service, she said: “I don’t know where my husband is, whether he is dead or alive, I don’t know.”

But she said she knew he was being held by the military, despite government denials.

Nnamdi Kanu heads the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement, which has revived separatist sentiment in the Igbo-dominated southeast region of Nigeria.

The former London estate agent has not been seen since soldiers raided his house in the Abia state capital, Umuahia, following a crackdown on his supporters in September last year.

Kanu is on bail and facing trial on treason charges in the capital Abuja but was not in court at the resumed hearing of the case in October, leading to an adjournment.

The IPOB leader was first arrested in October 2015, prompting a wave of protests in the southeast and a crackdown by the police and military.

A previous declaration of an independent republic of Biafra in 1967 sparked a bloody, 30-month civil war.

The conflict left more than one million dead, most of them Igbos, from the effects of starvation and disease, as federal forces blockaded the fledgling state.

Kanu, who is in his 40s, has said his aim was “civil disobedience”, including shut-downs and boycotts of elections, to force a referendum on self-determination.

I doubt if Kanu is still alive. And the sudden calmness of his people is even more disturbing. How can a person of Nnamdi Kanu be missing and none of his people is aggressively curious.

Sorry poor woman, those who back your husband in struggle for Biafra had since join force with PDP after his disappearance. IPOB are planning to vote PDP overwhelmingly while you are planning boycotting of election. Many of them are advising people to get their PVC ready very unfortunate.

Okanlawon being the number one issue in the prelude to the 2019 general elections is the extreme of delusional grandeur.

Even in Aba, his existence or lack of it is not going to be the issue, talkless of the country at large where he remains a wanted terrorist and anarchist who broke his bail.

I hope that IPOB goes on a massive campaigne to boycott the 2019 elections in the SE/SS area and all future elections in Nigeria.

Before then, IPOB would have successfully lifted its proscription at the court of appeal and free to return to full blown street agitation

YEP, it's a shame. The governors led by the satanist Elechi shortly after gave Buhari chieftancy title. Even Nwobodo as old as he is led some useless red cap wearing fools to Abuja recently claiming they are SE APC....

And not to bring Phyno in the matter, but dayum, even his concert at Zik stadium in Enugu shortly after Kanu's demise was sold out, with folks that of course are mostly Igbo/Biafran there dancing like no tomorrow.

That is why Fulani are ruling, killing, looting, and doing as they please because their elders AND there youth are far more serious than the cowards and jokers South of the Benue and Niger Rivers

The best way to go is to ask IPOB to come out and vote Inhumane Bubu out massively. That way your husband will regain his freedom.

Wrong move. How will not voting out this terrorist government provide your husband? If the ipob make the mistake of boycotting 2019 elections, they should be ready to deal with another 4yrs of buhari and his terroristic tendencies.

I watched Channel TV last week, some youth in Niger state called 'reclaim naija' were having a jaw jaw with INEC abou voter education.

The INEC official then revealed that in the last Anambra Guber only 21% of registered voters voted. We all know it was IPOB campaign that helped secure 79% sit at-home. A fact that they've been hiding to water down IPOB influence in the SESS. grin

The truth is like the rising sun. It can never be hidden by a human palm.

Another 1.......

Boycott of 2019 elections?

Our country needs more than an election boycott. The way things are going on in this zoo, there should have been need for a massive national protest.my issue with many Nigerians is that some of them still find it hard to believe we've been suffering since the inception of this shithole.
Whilst I know it might take a village to boycott our next election,I tink it is high time we stop elections and know what the hell is going on here.even if not for ourselves, for the future of generations to come.
We OWE THEM THAT!!

Watch how those who never comment when heardsmen attacks on heir lands come here to masturbate.

As for Nnamdi Kanu, he has left his legacy for the younger generation. He has planted a Biafran consciousness in the young minds. Whether he is dead or alive, his mission has been accomplished.

Only those who think long term will understand what I just said. The foolish ones will throw insults.

Nnamdi Kanu wasn't sagacious at all. Sagacious people know how not to build their team around venal and/or feeble-minded people - small-minded people. They're only good for use to execute plans. So I'm not surprised that his disappearance literally marked an end to his struggle.

PVC collection centres are cropping up everywhere in villages in the North and this foolish woman is still telling her people to take an action that will return Buhari for another 4 years. How stupid can people be? Can't they reason?
