On April 28, 1996, a 28-year-old Australian man named Martin Bryant ate lunch at Broad Arrow Cafe in Port Arthur, Tasmania, a historic penal colony, that is a popular tourist resort.

After his meal, he returned his tray, removed a semi-automatic rifle from his bag, and opened fire.

By the time Bryant was caught a day later, 35 people were dead and 23 wounded in what became the worst mass shooting in Australian history one whose impact is felt even today.

The gun was an AR-15 rifle with a 30-shot magazine.

Gunman Martin Bryant is taken from an ambulance into Royal Hobart hospital after an 18-hour standoff with police after the shootings.

Australia's strict gun control came after Martin Bryant mercilessly shot 35 people in the Port Arthur massacre.

Former Prime Minster John Howard was responsible for destroying about one million firearms after he tightened gun control and launched a controversial buy-back scheme following the 1996 Port Arthur massacre

Mick Roelandts, firearms reform project manager for NSW Police, looks at a pile of about 4,500 prohibited firearms that were handed in under the Australian government's buy-back scheme in 1997

Good example of implementation of Common Sense. Guns have no place in a civilized society.

North Korea is stocking up their arsenal to defend themselves, America in the other hand is using their beloved AR-15 to shoot up their own people.

Talk about common sense embarassed

I've noticed that AR15s are always the guns used in mass shootings. Why not restrict its sale to veterans and the likes, not just anyone?

Have you ever discovered that whenever criminals are paraded and photographed with the AK47s that were recovered, the AK47s in the pictures almost always have white painted numbers marked on them..
That could only mean two things..
It's either the criminals operated with marked police/army guns, or that the policemen dropped their own guns and counted same as part of the guns used by the criminals.

Since then there has been no repeat of such incident. People ask how gun control laws will stop someone from getting a gun. I use myself as an example. Am twenty six this year and am yet to hold a single rifle because it's prohibited but someone not legally enough to buy beer actually got a semi automatic rifle and killed his fellow students just because he was mistreated and rejected by the school. This is something many students face everyday but they don't go on kiling spree here

Unlike America filled with people with madcow disease including their leaders.

If america is safe as they always try to paint it, why do citizens own guns?

What do they use the guns for?
