Not all frozen foods are preserved with chemicals. Most naija made are free from chemicals

And this formalin used in preserving chicken could cause renal failure and cancer. Ever wondered why lots of nigerians these days are being afflicted with renal failure? God help us all.op thanks for sharing.

Only imported frozen chicken?

There are unscrupulous local marketers also using Formalin (Formaldehyde) on local products such as Kpomo (edible cow skin); the story even made headlines here in Nairaland a few years ago; its was claimed when used the chemical not only preserves the item but also makes it swell up and appear more bulkier and appealing - Nigerians, especially kpomo overs, be warned, stay clear away from any kpomo that appears unusually thick and more appealing; it may have been adulterated.

this is even fair enough. several years ago, i went to see my dad at his patrol station. They had seized a full truck of frozen turkey/chicken for over 3days and it was beginning to smell and pollute the checkpoint environment.
While they awaited order from HQ to burn the frozen food, the owners were also doing sone bribing at HQ to get back their goods.
Eventually, they got an order from above that the goods should be released. This made me curious cos it was smelling already and can't be consumed.
Behold, right in my presence there these people offloaded the truck, brought some sort of chemicals and other liquid stuff and began washing it. After the exercise, they repackage it into new cartons and loaded the truck.
Jeez! And someone will consume these poison. From that moment i swore never to take frozen anything. If if it's not life then not worth eating

Ve had two experiences too
The first was the one I bought that had an unusual smell
The 2nd was recently when I saw some greenish stain in the marrow (can't say if it was pseudomonas)
I think I ll rest my case on eating those stuff for now

You're very right. Especially now that many businesses are either cutting corners or reducing quality to survive the economic depression.
Many years ago we used to enjoy frozen fish called iced-fish and our local chickens taken from our poultry even as secondary students.
We all need to back to the basics- grow your vegetables and rear your chickens.

It is true that some of us like eating these frozen foods, but I came across the preservative used for preserving them.
Formalin... the stuffs fumes like anything and is corrosive..
If you want to eat, buy the Natural one and eat.

This thing is damn corrosive....
Even Coca-Cola etc...
Please let's reduce the way we consume them so that our health wouldn't suffer.
