Mercedes-Benz has launched the luxurious S-Class in India, starting at Rs 1.33 crore for the S 350 d and Rs 1.37 crore (All Prices, Ex Showroom) for the S 450 petrol version. Since the launch of the S-Class nameplate in India, Mercedes-Benz India has sold over 6700 units.
Speaking at the launch of the new S 350d and S 450, Mr Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India stated, “True to its legacy, the S-Class has emulated its global success in India and has had a phenomenal run in the country. To continue and build on this success, we have introduced the new version of our flagship saloon, which reaffirms its leadership status. This time round, it is not just intelligent, but also responsible luxury. By launching the first ever ‘Made in India, for India’ BS VI car, we have set a benchmark among all car manufacturers to support the Government in mitigating the rising pollution levels in the country. The new S-Class brings together luxury, design and technology that meet the highest standards of perfection, surpassing expectations for a vehicle of this class.”

Exterior wise, the front of the model boasts of elegance with LED headlights and LED daytime running lights along with an eager front chin and large twin-slat chrome grille. In terms of equipments, the new S-Class gets an array of new features that also includes radar-based driving assistance and safety systems, which is the first product by Mercedes-Benz in India. This new safety feature would reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the protection of occupants as well as pedestrian users, a panoramic sliding sunroof with an obstruction sensor, two electric roller sunblind, multi-function steering wheel now gets ergonomic touch control buttons and is integrated with cruise control in the left-hand grip area, a high-resolution 12.3-inch with COMAND system, 4-zone climate control and you also get 64 coloured ambient lightings inside dashboard trim. As the model has been specifically made for the owners who want to be chauffeured around, it also gets rear electronic recliner seats that can tilt up to 43.5 degrees, ensuring the comfort of the owner.
Under the hood,Mercedes-Benz S 350d will come powered by a new inline six cylinder engine that produces 282bhp of maximum power and 600Nm of top torque, while the S 450 is power packed with a V6 petrol engine that cranks out 362bhp of top power and a peak torque of 500Nm.
Both the powertain would come mated to a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Where the diesel does 0 to 100 kmph in 6 seconds and the same can be done in 5.1 seconds by petrol version.

I have always been a Mercedes fan, but those front end decorations are getting way too complicated and elaborate.

The car in the picture above reminds me of a bulldozer. Not sleek and aerodynamic looking, even if it is so by design in the wind tunnel.
