After photos of a teacher in Ghana teaching his students about the computer with drawing on the board, went viral. A lady tagged Microsoft and requested that they assist the school with a computer. Microsoft replied in the affirmative and also promised to support the teacher with further training to equip him with more advanced skills. The teacher who became an online sensation after photos of him drawing a computer on a blackboard, claimed there was no computer in the school and they had to improvise to tutor the students who were so much willing to learn. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teacher, Richard Appiah Akoto decided to be innovative in the face of lacking teaching and learning materials. So Akoto had an ingeniously simple idea: he drew computer features and software on his blackboard, using multicolored chalk. Pictures of Richard Appiah Akoto drawing a Microsoft word interface on a board for his pupils were shared on Twitter. Social media exploded in admiration and wonder at his effort to explain how the computers works. Some people went as far as saying the guy should be nominated for a Nobel Prize award. Among the hundreds of people who shared the post and helped popularize it was Rebecca Enonchong, an entrepreneur who urged Microsoft Africa on Twitter to provide Akoto with some proper devices so he can leave the chalkboard behind. On Tuesday, Microsoft Africa replied, promising Akoto a computer and access to educational material. “Teaching of ICT in Ghana’s school is very funny,” he says on the caption accompanying the post. Among the hundreds of people who shared the post and helped popularize it is Rebecca Enonchong, an entrepreneur who urged Microsoft Africa on Twitter to provide Akoto with some proper devices so he can leave the chalkboard behind. “Surely you can get him some proper resources,” she suggested. http://lailasnews.com/microsoft-supports-ghana-teacher-seen-teaching-computer-board/ lalasticlala 5 Likes

This is a joke, if you don't have a computer to teach Microsoft word template then why bother? These people are setting a bad precedent and promoting mediocrity all because of this generation's sense of entitlement. It is the duty of every government to adequately provide the necessary equipment for teachers to do their work. Also if the Facebook posters were so concerned, why didn't they contribute money to buy that school a used computer? No but they are quick to like silly posts urging Microsoft to buy computers for the school as if Microsoft is the state government. Foolish people, a white person will see a problem and start a gofundme campaign, these ones are looking for handout from Microsoft. 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Astonishing!!!!!! This is the most purposive and steadfast act by any teacher in the world. Duplicating the MS Word window and appurtenances on a chalk board in 2018 all in a bid to teach students is the peak of determination to impart knowledge, and beyond being rewarded with free resources, his selflessness needs to be rewarded. That said, with all sincerity, when will these primitive learning methods end in Africa? What do our leaders discuss at AU Summits? 25 Likes 2 Shares |

Africa, a wealthy continent but constantly suffering shame on account of the actions of the crooks and rascals 'elected' to oversee her wealth. What a shame, in this modern times and day, Schools still use blackboards and chalk. How many schools like this exist undercover? I pray more 'microsoft' discovers them since the government could care less; their children are overseas. |

EmagNig: This is the spirit for success - never take anything for an excuse to get there. There is a way around every obstacle to achieve that result, you only need determination, doggetness, and discipline - this has been so me when i had to put up two bush lamps on either sides of the black board to teach my serious students at nights when NEPA will not give us their light and the school will not buy diesel for the generator. 2 Likes |

To be honest anyone who schooled in Nigeria and acts surprised at the teacher's method of teaching is just forming and acting naive!!! This is a common thing in almost all our public primary and secondary schools especially in the village! Those of us who taught during NYSC can attest to this!! I have drawn alot on the board!! Here we learn with imagination!! So what's the fuss all about??! It's better we stop forming and do something about it! |
