please what do you have to say about the allegation that kia rio does not have airbags? i think your contribution will really help clear the ground on the issue and hasten your sales too.

I already contributed to the thread. As I said, the kia rio model made for the nigerian market and distributed by Dana motors (sole rep of Kia in Nigeria) are not ordered with airbags, Instead they are equipped with seatbelt pretensioners.

The reason is price, most pple that buy Kia do so because of the price, the kia picanto and rio are ordered without to keep prices reasonable. No one will buy a kia if the brand is perceived as too expensive for the quality. Believe me, I get a lot of customers asking "in this day and age? A brand new car without airbags? But what can I say, If there's no regulatory body to monitor these things and the nigerian govt cannot be bothered about safety, the distributors will do as they wish.

Funny enough I drive a rio, its cheap to maintain, low fuel consumption and it gets me where I wanna go and believe it or not the Rio is still our most popular and highest selling model.

at least you are able to clarify issues there. i wish you happy sales.

Indie, thanks for shedding some light on the issue of Kias with or without airbags.

Just one question - do the non-airbag cars still have "Airbag" embossed on the driver's wheel, and passenger side fascia? I only ask, because the one in your advert has the driver's wheel embossed. Or are some sold with airbags?

That coupe is really hot. I can see its equipped with the airbag

Only the Kia Picanto and Kia Rio models come without airbags in the whole range, every other model from the Cerato to the Mohave (4WD) all come equipped with airbags. Hence the sign!

Does the coupe come in Manual drive?

Yeah it is hot! Wish they would let me trade in my Rio for it, but no such luck.

It only comes in auto transmission at the moment.

Whats the asking price for the coupe?

Current price is 3.550 m naira, price comes inclusive of 15 months/ 15000km comprehensive servicing free! (Labour and parts included). As well as the 3 year/ 100000km warranty backed up by the manufacturers. Cheers!

The current price for the 2010 Kia Cerato is 2.9m naira inc of the 15months free service, yes, there's a service centre in warri. (around old airport road).

Its just a bit here and there, the 2010 kia cerato comes with outside mirror feature embedded side repeaters (side trafficators are they are populaly known), electro chromic mirror (the rear view mirror can sense and adjust to light), centre console chrome rimmed knobs, everything else is the same and yes the price comes inclusive of VAT.

The 09 cerato (currently not being sold anymore) was 2.690m naira, while the 2010 model is currently being sold for 2.920m naira, price is inclusive of VAT.

would have bought a kia or hyundai but after painstaking research on their safety features discovered they didn't have what i wanted in a good car. so, at the end i settled for a toyota.

almost wanted to do that. i wanted so desperately to belong to the growing 'naija new' kia club but at the end decided it wasn't worth buying an empty shell in the name of a new car when i can buy used that gave me all what i wanted.

I wouldnt necessary call them "empty shells" george, people have different things they want in cars, some pple are more particular than others, ive seen people that have gone tokunboh in the past and would never even think tokunboh now coz of bad experiences with cars, as long as its been used before, u cant compare it to something new and spanking even if that thing is kia or hyundai.

Most people dont half care about a lot of things when it comes to cars, all they want is a car that can take them from point A to B, without any stress whatsoever, a car that that will not make them spend time and money in any mechanic's workshop for at least the first couple of years, a car that is both practical, fuel economic and above all affordable.

the mad rush for anything new in this country irrespective of the quality tells a lot about our level or depth of knowledge as a people. plus the government doesn't care a hoot whether people are actually buying death traps in the name of 'new cars'
