All those who have mentioned snake bite as the culprit here, happen to be right on the money.

The tops of palm trees are INFESTED with poisonous snakes, and for that reason many palm wine tappers carry small locally-made black-powder pistols, that they deploy to blast any snakes that make an appearance whilst the tapper is atop the tree.

In this instance, the snake evidently displayed faster reflexes than the palm wine tapper, who was thus bitten and killed, before he could escape down the tree, or draw his pistol to do battle with the serpent.

I was a bush man, sometimes u will be walking in bush something will chook you. When you are under pressure in the bush, adrenaline may make you not feel pains until you are at home. snake bite is not painful that much.

A lot of theories may suffice about his death.

1. It could be a case of a snake bite or poisonous animal

2. It could be that of shock/fear and ultimately stress emanating from the reaction to the what he saw.

3. It could also be as a result of pre-existing health condition showing up at odd place.

4. It could also be an external attack from a stranger leaving him defenceless.

But then, living is a huge risk... It takes grace to fight life's battles.

Pray that God will comfort his family for this painful loss.

Because I don't necessarily give so much credit to village effect.

Truth is, ignorance always makes the village people seem powerful, but in all sincerity, they are not as powerful as we portray them.
