Nigeria: Indorama Plans To Produce 750, 000 Tons Of Urea In 2018 by postbox: 6:53am On Mar 08, 2018
Indorama Eleme Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL), one of Nigeria’s main fertilizer suppliers, plans to produce 750, 000 tons of urea during the next agricultural season. Sanjay Srivastava, the sales and marketing manager told Dailytrust.

The manager said that the company also plans, in line with the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), to double the volume of fertilizer it supplies to the country from 180, 000 tons to 360, 000 tons this year. Validated in December 2016 by President Buhari, the PFI is a directive to reduce fertilizer imports and make it available and affordable for farmers.

For the record, the company operates the world’s largest urea production plant with an installed capacity of 1.4 million tons yearly in Rivers state, Southern Nigeria. It plans to create Africa’s largest petrochemical hub in Nigeria through a $5.8 billion investment by 2022.

In a country like Nigeria, we need more of petrochemical industries as well as more fertilizer plants. Our useful components after crude distillation is wasting. We need at least 5 more companies of this size. As it stands I don't know if we have our consumption or fertilizer demand index.

Even with a bigger plant, the Quality of Notore's Urea (what you call fertilizer) is better than Indorama's own.

We lack management skills. Same Nigerians ruin NAFCON, Elements Petrochemicals, Nitel, NEPA, Refinery.

Bring in foreigners to manage the aforementioned moribund companies and see how they will turn around to be a money spinning machine.

We lack managerial and administrative skills and quality.

There are good news everyday and everywhere, it all depends on where you source for your news. This doesn't mean there is absent of bad news, no. If you desire to listen to bad news you certainly search for it,just like if you desire good news you will search for it. However some people have programmed themselves against anything good news in this country.

Not totally sold, FG through NNPC still holds some equity. It was a good move if you ask me. Prior to the almost moribund, operating as less than 25% capacity and almost going the way of many of our refineries. When Indorama took over, in less than 12months, without laying off any Nigeria staff, it was operating at 100%.

The returns paid to FG in the first year was way much more than what was ever made prior to privatisation

Nothing in this government is ever in thousands. You will only be hearing millions, billion, trrillions!

Yet nothing to show for it.

Don't be surprised if you do an investigation and find out that this company produces barely up to 10,000 tonnes.
