The first illegal artisans to storm to the lime lights across the media in Nigeria were the militants. Recall the voice of the former President Yar’adua, “Now therefore, I, Umaru Musa Yar’dua, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, after due consultation with the council of states and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the provisions of Section 175 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, make the following proclamation.


I hereby grant amnesty and unconditional pardon to all persons who have directly or indirectly participated in the commission of offences associated with militant activities in Niger Delta”


From 2009, the militants began to occupy the front pages of newspapers, their arms and munitions like a plumage to their viral photographs. They had pardon, payments, empowerment together with an unusual fame. Till today, most of their escapades are still held prominent by various media houses.


The second set of uncommon glorified citizens of Nigeria later became the Chibok Girls. On the night of 14-15 April, 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. The reports of these girls as well as Federal Strategies to rescue them became a sort of tirade each passing day. The nation has been in wonder as of what has become of these girls having been picking with their ears whatever the media could broadcast. Last year November, in The Nation’s newspaper was a very elaborate picture of our President and some supposed rescue girls. Anyone will know how eminent it is to be in the front page of a national paper. We can almost conclude that this is the most official dramatization of crime in the country.


However, the most intriguing Celebrities who had just proudly appeared this January, 2018, are our brothers and sisters from Libya. They are citizens, young artisans and ‘hustlers’ who had left the country through the Sahara desert, journeying through Libya and other countries and then to Europe for what we used to call the ‘golden fleece’ now greener pastures. Various newspapers this month have been displaying their pictures alongside their predicaments. Their supposed sad tales of how they abdicated their country, Nigeria and maneuvered into Libya where they started hustling in the mean streets are what even rural parrots now chirp about.
