This step is long overdue. Graduates should be armed to solve problems within their discipline, as opposed to looking for employment. The garbage in , garbage out learning has to stop if Africa is to join the 4th industrial revolution .
Unlag needs not just refineries but motor manufacture plants . Imagine the tech explosion this would ignite.

only God knows where dull guys like this crawl out from grin

Some of the funds will be provided by BOI

Oh, for the love of God, that's why engaging Naijeriyan suffer-heads like you is always a downgrade; it's most definitely gotta have something to do with the scorching heat of your harmattan that fries your brains, right?

Get it in the ABC Nursery Rhymes version then:

The world is telling your over-bloated country to position itself along lines of your comparative strengths.

Fossil fuels are fast getting done with.
You lot are getting way too many, way too fast to still be playing all the sulky games you're playing with your educational framework and content

Spending your scarce resources that the BOI could put to other uses for building experimental refineries to understudy is still a bit lame

Renewable/Clean Energy is the way forward. Even your oil reserves is being depleted as we speak, so what are you on about? Are you not supposed be researching that and using ur climatic distribution patterns to advantage?

You're supposed to be busy thinking of pioneering the future instead of being so anal, with your head up your arss all the time, studying shyt with those your archaic textbooks on your outdated curriculum and all graduating to come out crying to the govt for jobs., You think that's how the next half of this century will run? No wonder ur certs don't mean shyt outside the shithole!

It won't take an epidemic contagion, natural disaster or any other Extinction Level Event to finally send Nigeria to its grave within the next 3 decades, it's gonna take backwards thinking dumdums like you because you're always happy for your gift of myopic expectations for life and the future but you know how to run around praying to every deity for deliverance once you realize how royally screwed your generations are. Well, may the good Lord keep blessing ur ignorance, my son!
Now, be on your way and stay da furk off my mentions!

In as much as I support the development, I still have my fears.
Who will fund the project?
Will it be given to students as final year projects regardless of the financial implications?
Will professionals like myself be involved?
If the school will bear the cost, won't it affect the students tuition?
Who will be in charge of the revenue?
And so many more... Na Naija we dey

Unilag should build power plants and nuclear energy, enough of refinaries.
Just what I wanted to say. Are we cursed with this petroleum thing? So we no fit think of another thing apart from petroleum? Is building refinery the most pressing thing for Nigeria? Unless the refinery go dey produce common sense and truth, else we no need am. BTW, y na places wey no get the raw material dey keen on setting up a refinery? And when Bill Gate and Trump give them bitter truth, them go dey vex.

Before you come to ABU to understudy anything, ask them what they are currently using their own for, or even if it has ever been used for anything. Flight money is expensive biko...don't just waste your money on white elephant (white refinery) project.

BREAKING NEWS

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, have announced it would soon set up conventional and standard locally-built refineries to boost the nation’s refinery capacity.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, made this known at the 1st Annual General Meeting, AGM, and 2nd Alumni Lecture of the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association.

According to Ogundipe, the students of the school needed to be exposed to refining process as an institution that produced graduates in Chemical Engineering.

According to him, “Committee has been set up to under-study the process from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“If you go to some of the universities in Texas, when their students graduate, because they have refineries in their universities they do not need to do certain courses when it comes to professional courses. Engineering has left that level of just setting down and starts computing.

“It is now about turning ideas to realities. It is about producing entrepreneurial skills and developing the skills in the life our students.

“We need to develop our students, all of them have skills that are unique to them, and the skills can help them set up their own businesses in future.

“Most of our students can develop application while some are with different skills. As a Vice Chancellor, faculty by faculty I am going to interact with students to encourage them, to develop their skills and we have already gotten the commitment of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and Bank of Industry, BOI for funds.”
