Life is not just about frowning and being hard. Their are moments for relaxation and a little laughter. Sharing wise cracks with close ones is all just part of the elixir of happy living. Sharing jokes is permissible in Islam but within a defined limit. The following are pointers to the manner jokes should be handled in Islam,

''If you ask them (about this), they declare: 'We were only talking idly and joking. 'Say: 'Was it at Allah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc) and His Messenger that you were mocking? 'Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed'' (Q9[al-Tawbah]:65-66)

We should not also joke with lies. For example, saying something that's not true and saying afterward that 'i was only joking' is also unacceptable in Islam.

Youths of dis generation now find it pleasing 2 laugh excessively & make jokes 4getting dat dis lyf is 2 short. Am not saying dat laughing is bad, but excess laughing or making jokes is not good 4 a believing Muslim. Rosulullah (S.A.W) warned His Ummah 2 distract 4rm excessive joking & laughing.

Do not defame a Muslim with your jokes
The Holy Prophet (Salallahu alayhim wa Salam) said: ''The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, he does not wrong him, let him down or look down upon him. Taqwa (piety, awareness and fear of (Allah) is here'' and he pointed to his chest three times '' It is sufficient evil for a man to look down upon his Muslim brother. Every Muslim is sacred to another, his blood, his property and his honour.'' (Muslim)

Weigh the Gravity of your jokes
''O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group; it may be that the latter are better than the former. Nor let (some) women scoff at another women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor insult one another by nicknames. How badis it to insult one's brother after having Faith'' (Q49[Hujuraat]:11)
