RCCG sunday school now is currently teaching about marriage and divorce. as we were meditating on it today, a man asked a question saying "is for better for worse a correct thing to be used during marital vows or for better for better" he further backed his question with a scripture.


Now my own view is that are they expecting worse condition in the bible or is the normal procedure everybody goes through?

Concentrate on the class and ask your teacher the question.

The normal thing should be f[i]or better and for worse[/i]. We are being blindfolded by modern day's religion. We should expect the bad too, so that once it happens, we will work on our already made preparations than to act as if it wont come entirely

"for better for worse" is just a realistic approach to life. Life could be good this minute and the next instant could turn very bad.

Those who say "for better and better" or some other stuff like that are just plainly unreasonable. What is there? Yes you would experience good times. You will experience tough times. Most important thing is you get thru it all.

Nigerians are generally a negative minded people. So the fear is saying "worse" would actually make worse things happen in the marriage, but you have already said "better" so why don't you believe better things would happen? Smh.

Everyday I pray to God to cleanse and rid me off this African mentality.

Whichever is used, it would still be fickle,cos Human beings are attracted to good things

do you think life will always be 100% rossy, there would always be trying times, for some financial issues, others health , families interference, etc all this entails for better for worst statement

It's not supposed to be a form of expression

In every marriage or commitment,
There will be good times and bad times,
Lovely times and challenging times,
Time to be Joyful and jovial and a time to be quiet and meditating...,
A time when there will be plenty and a time when there is virtually nothing....
Any matured couple will know that there will be rough times....when some things dont seem to make sense
A wise couple will know that tough and challenging times only serve as a platform to motivate and make them see that it can only get better for them!
Hence in my opinion,"For better for worse" implies that both will STICK AND ENCOURAGE each other no matter the challenges!

For better for worse is just a statement to some people while to others it means a lot and they adhere to it

Together with my wife to be, we'll write our vows. I won't be reading that out loud. And I'll not even say that 'Till death do us part' thing. I do realise that divorce is something that can happen in marriage. In as much as we strive to make sure we live as one. There are times you realize the both of you were really never meant to be.
