Villa offered a 4-season €5.5 m/year deal

Catalan sports paper Sport yesterday claimed both FC Barcelona and Valencia CF presidents Joan Laporta and Manuel Llorente have almost aligned their respective positions regarding David Villa’s transfer negotiations.

Sport believes discussions have gone on smoothly over the past 48 hours because Manuel Llorente, who is acting on behalf of the Valencia player – due to Villa not having an agent – as well as looking out for the club’s interest itself, has been able to collectively align his position.

With the 28-year-old prolific striker already sounding out his desire to have his fate decided before this summer’s World Cup tournament, both parties are working feverishly toward a resolution.

One point of contention is the transfer fee payable to the Mestalla entity. Llorente is asking for €42 m and is unwilling to budge on that price. It has to be mentioned that €42 m was the bid that FC Barcelona offered for the player last summer – an offer rejected by Llorente then, who wanted €45 m. The Catalans argue – rightfully so – that a player’s value decreases with age, but Llorente is still unrelenting.

According to the paper, the out-going European champions are willing to concede on that fee but are still negotiating on other aspects of the deal, including bonuses payable to Valencia dependent on the achievements of the player in his first season as a blaugrana. Both sides hope an agreement can be reached by next week.

On David Villa’s personal demand, nothing has changed from the one he agreed to last summer – before prevented from leaving by Llorente – according to Sport. In principle, he agreed to a four-year contract – with the option for a one-year extension, and an annual salary of €5.5 m. A release clause was not discussed back then.

OFFICIAL: Barcelona Sign David Villa From Valencia cool
Re: 2010/11 Football Season Transfers/Transfer Rumours by medjai(m): 12:23pm On May 19, 2010
Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona have completed the transfer of prolific hitman David Villa from fellow La Liga outfit Valencia for a fee of €40 million. The striker has signed a four-year deal at his new club with an option to extend his stay for a further year.

The Spanish international had continually been linked with a move away from Valencia in the past couple of weeks and a transfer only appeared to be a matter of time when Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed earlier this week that negotiations between the Blaugrana and Los Che were ongoing.

The two parties have now reached an agreement over the transfer of the highly rated attacker, as Valencia confirmed on their official website on Wednesday, and Villa will ply his trade at Barcelona next term. The Spanish champions confirmed on their own website that Villa will travel to Barcelona on Thursday evening to undergo a medical, and will attend his official presentation at 13:30 CET on Friday.

Villa joined Valencia from Real Zaragoza in the summer of 2005 and has since developed into one of the best strikers around in the Primera Division. The 28-year-old has so far scored 109 league goals in 166 appearances.

The arrival of Villa could very well mean the end of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Catalan powerhouse. The former Inter star has failed to find his best form at Barcelona since joining the club last summer and has been linked with a move away from the Spanish champions more than once in the past couple of weeks.

Villa has been in superb form all season and currently sits sixth in the Castrol Rankings.

In-demand England midfielder James Milner has put potential suitors on red alert by saying he does not know if he will still be at Aston Villa next season.

And Villa's resolve to keep the 24-year-old is set to be tested by Manchester City, who offered £30m for him after having a £20m bid rejected

That improved offer may not be enough for City, though, as Chelsea have joined the race for Milner and they believe the lure of Champions League football could prove decisive.

Villa could also lose forward Ashley Young to Tottenham, who are ready to offer Robbie Keane or Jermaine Jenas as part of a deal for him.

Spurs face competition for Young from Manchester city, who enquired about his availability at the same time they asked about Milner.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is so fed up with manager Rafael Benitez he is ready to walk out if he gets the right offer.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has his eye on Real Madrid's Brazilian superstar striker Kaka.

West Ham confirm Henry bid
West Ham joint chairman David Sullivan has revealed he wants to sign the former Arsenal striker and is willing to offer him a two-year deal worth around £75,000 a week, more than £7.5m in total.
Sullivan told The Sun: “We’re trying to assemble a more prolific strike force at West Ham and I’d love to have Henry here. Our club is in debt but a striker of his quality and standing would make it a great deal.”

I wish that could come true so that TITi will retire comfortable
