The Ogun State government has appointed another set of 65 principals and 152 vice principals, towards enhancing smooth administration in public secondary schools across the state. The appointments, effected by state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), brings the total of principals and vice principals appointed by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration to 433 and 975 respectively. Speaking at the induction ceremony held at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the TESCOM Chairman, Chief (Mrs.) Olabosipo Ogunsan, said exercise was based on seniority, merit and time of certification. She advised the new principals and vice principals, to lead by example, as they are now role models in their various schools. Ogunsan charged them to provide quality leadership and be steadfast, dedicated, committed and hardworking, to justify their appointments. She urged them to guard against all forms of indiscipline and examination malpractices in schools, adding that “being a principal, you must stand against bad conducts like lateness to school, sexual immorality, unprofessional behaviour by teachers, lackadaisical attitudes to work and indiscipline.” Earlier in his welcome address, the Full-Time Commissioner ll of the Commission, Alhaji Nojeem Macgregor, expressed gratitude to the governor for the gesture, noting that the development will ensure the effective administration in schools for improved performance of students, teaching as well as non teaching staff. Also,no fewer than 4,000 teachers from public secondary schools, have been trained on the rudimentary knowledge of computer and its usage, in preparation for their forthcoming Computer Based Test (CBT) promotion examinations. Ogunsan, while speaking at the training workshop, with the theme; “Towards Progressive Evaluation System”, held at the Southwest Resource Centre, Abeokuta, said the training was to integrate the participants into the latest trends in Information Communication Technology (ICT). She noted that the exercise, which took place simultaneously in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Ilaro and Ifo, in batches of morning and afternoon sessions, will equip the teachers for effective service delivery. “The government of Ogun State has indicated its willingness to introduce Computer Base Test (CBT), for promotion exercises throughout the state, for GL 06-10, with effect from the 2016 promotion exercise. “The commission has put this programme together to prepare and integrate the secondary schools workforce into the new order of conducting promotion through Computer Base Test’’, the TECOM chairman stated.
