With his new album, Black Times, Seun Kuti is emphasising the message that Black people have significant history and cultures that are being erased by their deliberate neglect of self-identity to embrace foreign cultures.

At the album listening in Lagos, Seun Kuti addresses Black ancestral legends that are not given their deserved #accolades.

I really can not understand why Africans believe and accept that a Jewish hippie that died over 2000 years ago died to save them. Save them from what exactly? Madness.

It's not madness... it's just unfortunate. They do not know history, at least not as you do.

The indoctrination begins in the schools, the so-called knowledge production centers. But what kind of knowledge are they producing?

The Bible/Quran is a core component of the Nigerian educational system... You learn from a young age that God is Jewish if you're born in a Christian home; the Muslims worship Allah, a lesser God. Yahweh is the Almighty. All other gods bow to him.

African/indigenous religions are barely touched; when they are discussed, we are taught our ancestors were savages, brutal, needed help, and the white man brought it through Jesus. Nollywood reinforces these thought patterns.

The Trans-Atlantic Slave trade and colonization and the legacies they left behind are rarely discussed. Heck, we didn't even learn about Biafra.. Most of the pictures we have of the war are gotten from secondhand and, and mostly ill-informed sources. Our past begins in Genesis, the future in Revelations.

I do have some suspicions that the miseducation is deliberate. With the citizen's feet in Africa, and the minds in Jerusalem, it doesn't take much to control political thought. Religion is how the Nigerian government ensures the people never hold them accountable, afterall God is in control. All that happens, happens because He wills.

This generation of Apostles, Prophets and Reverends will leave behind a generation of 'Yes Sirs' and 'Amen'. There is a lot of re-education to be done.

]Love your post Happy Pagan. Couldn't have agreed better! Though I'm not African I'm a history buff and also pretty anti-colonial.

LOL! Agreed! Though I have no quarrels with African peoples choosing the religion they want, the state of religions in African countries currently is insane.
