Some persons were killed in a fatal accident few days ago along Bauchi-Gombe road in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state. According to reports, the corpses of the deceased are yet to be identified and claimed by their families as they have been deposited at the General hospital in Bauchi.

Road traffic accident (RTA) is the number one killer of Nigerians between the age of 15 and 45 years, a major fraction of our population.
It ends lives right in their prime and most productive stage. Friends, families, parents, lovers colleagues lost to the road in hundreds EVERYDAY.
Those that don't die suffer from life debilitating conditions such as spinal injury, amputations and various disabilities.

But it won't stop, people will likely keep perishing on our roads.
Why?

Because we don't care.
We all are devils that feed on these souls, lurking on every road waiting to feed on blood.

The FRSC won't do enough to make the roads safe, they won't enforce road laws but collect bribe.

The police will not ensure road safety but collect bribe.
The institution that issues driving license and permit is a joke, anyone drives, no knowledge of road use, no driving exams.
The government doesn't care about making safe roads or providing emergency care.
The Religious leaders proclaim accident survivors as God's miracle but ignore those who died, no actions.
The average nairalander will comment "RIP" "That road" "Are they northern" " God save us" etc, all the time but fail to understand that we can stop these road deaths.

A sane driver, a safe road, an educated population and a safe vehicle will stop road traffic deaths.

Play your part, tell the other person, make your car safe, pressure the leaders, speak out, believe its not miracle or answered prayers, every road can be safe, we just must want it and work towards it.

Look at their faces very well, they're probably Sai Barbarians with Nairaland accounts. No wonder some of them haven't been coming online for some time now.

Same road that took my younger brother, Ikechukwu in 2009- a month to the end of his service (NYSC).
